Obituary: Mrs. Dean Singleton passed away this , 17, 2016 at Jackson-Madison General Hospital after a short illness. She was born 10, 1930 in Sardis, TN to the late B.B. and Clyde Thompson. Dean was married the fifth of , 1949 to the love of her life Jim Singleton, who preceded her in death in 2014. She worked for the West Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts of America. Dean retired after 25 years as a bookkeeper and Office Manager. She maintained friendships across the country with Scout Executives who passed through this office. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Holland/Cullen School Class. Dean is survived by her son, Mike Singleton (Sandra) of Jackson; and daughters, Pam Singleton McCorkle of Jackson and Lori Singleton of Spring Hill, TN. She has three grandchildren, Ellen Singleton of New York, Steve Singleton of Nashville, and J.D. McCorkle of Jackson. Obituary: Sandra G. Singletary, 75, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on , 02, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Sandra was born on 6, 1941, a daughter of Raymond Allen Gaskin and Theresa (Allen) Gaskin. Sandra was a homemaker married to Dr. Patrick J. Singletary. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved participating in The Art of the Ozarks plays and musicals. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Patrick J. Singletary and one sister, Allyn Maher. Obituary: Agnes Jai Singh passed away peacefully the afternoon of 10, 2016. Agnes was born in a small village in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India on 7, 1924. Orphaned by the small-pox epidemic of the turn of the century, her father, Kodu, was raised by a Scottish mission orphanage and, converted to Christianity at a young age went on to become a minister. Her mother, Milka, was likewise an orphan. Agnes was born the second of eight children and grew up in the tiny village of Seoni, raised in a two-bedroom mud home. Despite them being quite poor, her parents yearned to see their children educated to the extent possible. Agnes was sent off to boarding school every year from the age of six, with only a small suitcase in hand. A talented and disciplined student, she was offered a full scholarship to medical school. But this was an honor she had to turn down because she had to go to work so that her family would have enough money to educate her younger siblings. As a young woman she went far from home to join the WACI (Womens Auxiliary Corps of India) to aid in the efforts during World War II. During this time she received a college degree through correspondence school (the original online degree). Following the War she was accepted to Leonard Theological in India to pursue a Masters degree in Theology. It was there that she met a young professor by the name of Dr. Herbert Jai Singh, recently returned from the University of Chicago. The two were married on 22, 1955. had two sons, Anil and Ajeet. In 1967 the family immigrated to the United States when Dr. Singh received a position to teach at the Hartford Seminary Foundation in Connecticut. Agnes and Herbert spent time living and working in both the United States and India until 1982, when they settled in Memphis after Dr. Singh retired. Agnes taught part-time at Immaculate Conception High School and spent the last ten years of her working career with the Department of and Human Services. Upon arriving in Memphis Herbert and Agnes looked for a church that aligned with their beliefs around service to others. found the fulfillment of this search at the Prescott Baptist Church. Agnes loved the community of the Prescott Church, was a regular participant in their Bible study groups, and their knitting circles where she enjoyed teaching others to knit and made socks and sweaters for families in need. Agnes continued to live an active and participatory life until her last year. An avid conversationalist and vivid storyteller, she cherished the connections that she made in the International Womens Club and with church friends. She loved cooking for others, discussing literature (of which she had a well-versed knowledge) and was fiercely dedicated to her family. She will be greatly missed.
