Obituary: Kathryn L. (OBryan) Shedeed was born 19, 1936 in the Winner Hospital to Boyd and Doshia (Eastin) OBryan. She was the eleventh of thirteen children. Kathryn was raised on the family farm east of Wood, SD. When she was nine years old the family moved to a farm nine miles south of Winner. Kathryn attended Burns country school throughout grade school. She then attended St. Marys Academy in ONeill, NE for two years and then attended school in Winner. Kathryn married Abraham John Shedeed on May 15, 1954 at St. Johns Catholic Church at Paxton, SD. farmed 15 miles south of Colome until two years ago when she had a stroke and went to Long Term in Winner. To their union they had seven children: Mary, George, Susan, Barbara, Janet, Cheryl, and Abraham Jr. (Charlie). Kathryns life was busy helping Abe operate the farm and caring for their children. With the kids in school, she was busy in the PTA. She also taught CCD at St. Johns until it closed. Then they became busy caring for the cemetery and church at St. Johns of Paxton. Kathryn had a caring heart. There were always neighbor kids or nieces or nephews spending time at the farm. She never knew how many until they came in for dinner. Later as the girls began to have boyfriends, they too were treated kindly, but she also had a job for them. Whether it was helping shear sheep or work cattle in the spring, everyone worked. Kathryn passed away on 7, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Kathryn is survived by her husband Abraham, Winner, SD; children Mary and Jeff Archambeau, Lake Andes, SD, daughter-in-law Patricia Shedeed, CO, Susan Jorgensen and friend Bill Brisk, Rapid City, SD, Barb and Ted Schmidt, White River, SD, Janet and Kevin DeMers, Colome, SD, Cheryl and Dan Valburg, White River, SD, and Abraham Jr. (Charlie) and friend Karla Ryno of Wood, SD; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters Clairice and Dorothy, brothers Pat, Kenneth, and Dick along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. I thought about so many things As I held tightly to your hand Oh, how I wished that you were strong And happy once again. But your eyes were looking homeward To that place beyond the sky Where Jesus held His outstretched arms It was time to say goodbye. I struggled with my selfish thoughts For I wanted you to stay So we could walk and talk again Like we did--just yesterday. But Jesus knew the answer And I knew He loved you so So I gave to you lifes greatest gift The gift of letting go. Now my heart will carry memories Of the love you gave to me Until we meet again in Heaven Where the best is yet to be. written by J. Morse |
