Obituary: Kathy Jill Stevenson, 68, lost her hard and long fought battle with cancer on 11, 2014. She died peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. Jill, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Effingham, Illinois to Alva Dean Beck and Carol Sparks Beck. She was the first of three daughters. Jill did much of her growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving with her family to Titusville, Florida for her senior year in high school. There she met her best friend for life and future husband, Kenneth R. Stevenson. Jill then went on to graduate from Florida State University with a degree in education. graduation she and Ken were married and moved back to Titusville to begin their teaching careers. The years after found them living in Gainesville, Fl., Greenville, SC, Tallahassee, Fl., and Sarasota, Fl. before settling permanently in Columbia, SC in 1981. Jill enjoyed traveling and visited such places as Ireland, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, The Netherlands, and Germany. But Ireland was her favorite of all. She also was a Master Gardener and loved working outdoors – with the caveat that the weather not be too hot, nor too cold. And, for the past several years Jill took great joy in playing tennis with her favorite tennis/lunch buddies who became Team Jill to support her in her last battles with cancer. Jill is survived by, as she called him, he love of my life, but also my best friend, Ken. She also is survived by two great children, Benjamin Stevenson of Irmo, SC and Heather Shuler of Vance, S.C., as well as Jills terrific son-in-law Kenneth of Vance, SC. She leaves behind two wonderful granddaughters, Savannah and Riley Shuler. Jill is also survived by her mother, Carol Sparks Beck of Titusville, Fl. and two sisters, Judy Kemmerling (Alan) of Savannah, Tn. and Deanie Russell (Steve) of Ovieda, Fl., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, Jill always felt that Kens relatives were her extended family and will miss her in-laws as well. Finally, Jill sadly leaves behind her Edisto family that she has always cherished beyond words. Jill was preceded in death by her father Alva Dean Beck. A visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., , 16, 2014 at the Murraywood Swim & Racquet Club, 2050 Cedarbrook Dr, Columbia, SC 29212. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers Jill asked that memorials be made to a charity of ones choice. However, she would be honored if the donation went to the fight against cancer, or to support the cause of Death with Dignity. |
