Obituary: On , 22, 2015, beloved family patriarch and retired engineer, Walter Scott Steinecke, passed away surrounded by four generations of his loving family. Born 28, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Walter and Gertrude Steinecke, Walt quickly grew tall, strong, and healthy. Moving to Lynbrook, New York as a boy, he was active outdoors, going on frequent camping trips as a Boy Scout and tending a large garden with his elderly Prussian grandfather. As he grew to maturity, he learned the clarinet and cultivated a fascination with the technical workings of everything he encountered. Throughout his life, he enjoyed applying his disciplined, practical mind to solve any mechanical problem he could find. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he was a man of integrity and dependability. two years in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, he earned an engineering degree from what is now Farmingdale State and began his life as a heating and cooling engineer. In 1960, he was hired by Lockwood Greene, where he would work for some 25 years, transferring to Spartanburg in 1967. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, home improvement projects, gardening, woodworking, and current events. For some 15 years he and his wife lived in Sarasota, Florida. Since 2004, they have lived in Boiling Springs, SC. Grandda is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Steinecke; sons, Scott (Carolyn) and Kurt (Beth); grandchildren, Brad, Eric, Krysten, and Luke; and one great-grandson, Will. Another great-grandson is expected next month. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM , 25, 2015, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. services will be conducted at 3:00 PM , 26, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Obituary: COLUMBIA – Catherine Ann Berger Steinacker, 80, passed away on 13, 2017 at Providence Hospital after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held on , 24, 2017 at 10:30 at Dunbar , Northeast Chapel, 4219 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223 with burial following at Fort Jackson National . Catherine was born in Cleveland, Ohio on 14, 1937 to the late Clyde Alvin and Emma Roeder Berger. She graduated from Shaker Heights HS and Ohio State University with a BA in Elementary Education in 1959. While at Ohio State, Cathy was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was the coming Queen. graduation she taught at NE Elementary in Montclair, NJ from 1959-1964 and worked from the DOD teaching in Fontainebleau, France from 1964-1966. While on a trip to Russia / Eastern Europe, she met her future husband, Ron who was an Army Officer in Germany. married in Germany on 16, 1966. When the couple moved to Florence, S.C., Cathy served on the BOD for the YMCA and taught in the Adult Education Program. She was active in the Columbia Bridge Club where she earned her Bronze Life Master. She was active in water aerobics and exercising at the JCC. Cathy was a world traveler, with her husband Ron, having visited over 100 countries and all 7 continents. She attended the Presbyterian Church. Cathy was a bright, wonderful, caring wife, mother and grandmother and will greatly be missed by many. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ronald; daughter, Kimberly Steinacker Sterk (Kelly) Indianapolis, Ind.; son, Jeffrey (Emily) Steinacker of Canberra, Australia and grandchildren, Caitlyn, Lucas, Nicole, Noah, Madeline and Sophie. In addition to her parents, her sister, Mary Alice Bergoch of Indianapolis, Ind., preceded her in death. |

Obituary: John M. Steigner COLUMBIA - services for John M. Steigner, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m , May 28, 2011 at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with entombment to follow. The family will receive friends after the service in the mausoleum chapel. Caughman-Harman , Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the SPCA, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209 or the Midlands Golden Retriever Rescue, P.O. Box 3545, Columbia, SC 29230-3545. Mr. Steigner was born 30, 1918 in Germantown, PA and passed away on , May 19, 2011. Mr. Steigner was a son of the late Marcus C. Steigner and Caroline Potts Steigner. Mr. Steigner was a 1938 graduate of Germantown Academy and also a 1942 graduate of Temple University. He was a member of Blue Key and Kappa Phi Kappa. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa graduate honor society. Mr. Steigner served as a bombardier and a navigator in the 8th Air Force 398th Bomb Group during World War II. He began his long career with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance in 1951 rising to the position of Vice President. He was a charter member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Mr. Steigner is survived by his daughters, Barbara Bland of Columbia, Sally Duckett of Rembert, Daun Steigner of Columbia and Gabrielle Steigner of Birmingham, AL; son, Dr. John Bruce Steigner of Houma, LA; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 grandchildren. John always said, I have had a real good run. under the direction of Caughman-Harman - St. Andrews Chapel, Columbia, SC. |
