Obituary: Mary W. Siberz peacefully passed away at the age of 90 in Milwaukie, Oregon. She is a woman who will be remembered for her perseverance, tenacity and ability to always find a different way to look at the world around her. Mary was born on 8, 1922 in Oakland, California to parents Florence and John Ward. Mary grew up in the bay area and attended grammar school at Fruitvale Elementary. She continued her education at Saint Jarlath’s Junior High and then Holy Names Central High School. Mary obtained her college education from Highland School of and graduated from there in 1946. Mary found her calling and passion in life when she enrolled in this college and devoted her life to being a nurse. school Mary met and married Virgil Siberz and together they moved to Oregon to start their married lives. Mary found employment at Portland Providence Medical and then Holladay Park Hospital and worked there as a nurse for over 40 years from 1956 to 1979. Mary had a special way of dealing with patients struggling with mental illness. She was firm but fair and was truly able to glide through intense and sometimes overwhelming situations. She always found a way to give compassion and nonjudgmental comfort to everyone she worked with; she truly was a skilled nurse. Upon retiring from the hospital in 1980 Mary didn’t exactly slow down. She worked for a while for St. Vincent’s Hospital and then for an independent in home nursing care company called Helpmates. She concluded her working career at Clackamas as an assessment nurse and retried for good in 1995. so many years dedicated to her career, Mary spent some time on her hobbies. She took photography, oil painting and writing classes and traveled with an Elder Hostel Group to Alaska, Southern Oregon, Olympic National Park, the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. In 2002 she joined the “Friends of the Milwaukie ” as a volunteer for the Senior Companion Program. Mary told people she had a new job of “Driving old people around”. When questioned what her definition of old people would be; as Mary was 80 years old herself she adamantly stated that “I have a 92 year old woman on my service, imagine that!” Mary retired from her volunteer activities in 2005. During this time she also retired her car and donated it to charity. She did this so she would not be tempted to drive; she still got around town as she joined the Trimet Lift Bus Commuter Program. Mary’s other role in life was being a caring mother to her nine children. Now, being a working mother of nine children requires some skills and organization. Mary had a job for every child and ran an efficient and bustling household. She insisted on hospital corners for every bed and chores be performed in a routine and consistent manner. Mary is predeceased by her husband Virgil and a daughter, Kathy Chamberlin. Her memory will be honored by her children: Margie Siberz, Patti Siberz, Sally Roberts, Barbara Siberz, John Siberz, Claire Gaston, Jim Siberz, and Tina Phillips. She will be dearly missed by her siblings: Father John Ward, Kathleen Tyrrell and Florance Lambrecht. Mary was a no-nonsense take charge personality yet she was a persistent analytical optimist whose calming presence will be deeply missed in this world. Mary deeply believed there was no problem in this world that didn’t have a solution and was always one to advocate for asking for help when needed. Her legacy will live on in those she knew and loved. |

Obituary: Kenneth Dean Caton was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on 21, 1944, to parents Clifton and Lucille Caton. Lucille was later married to Earl Sibert, which adopted Ken in 1950. Ken was brother to Dick, James, and Joyce Sibert. Early in Kens life, his family relocated to Colorado. Ken grew up in the rural setting of Loveland , Colorado and much of his young life was spent engaged in agricultural work. From the ages of 14 to 16 Ken was operating farm equipment and driving tractors. At 17, Ken took an interest in driving larger trucks, thus beginning a lifelong career in trucking. Ken enlisted and served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. During his time in the Army he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. Prior and subsequently, to his time in the Army, Ken had worked in many fields, including but not limited to, farm worker, construction work, Rancher- roping, branding, fence mending, round-ups, breaking horses, steer roping, & cattle drivers. He was also a Warm Springs Police Officer, an EMT, and finished his career as a long haul truck driver. Once he went back to work as a long-haul trucker \ hauling goods all over the United States until his retirement in of 2008. Ken won many safety awards as a trucker and was revered and respected by his peers as a true professional in his field of work. In 1972, Ken moved to Madras, Oregon with some friends. He was married to Jeanine Fowler and gained 5 step children. Eventually Ken called Portland his home. Ken exchanged wedding vows with Shelly Stewart-Stalder at the Portland City Justice on 17th, 1988. The two shared many special trips together and many memorable adventures in the Oregon outdoors. Ken and Shelly were avid outdoors people and the two enjoyed fishing trips to Lost Lake, Trojan Lake, crawdad fishing at Harriott Lake, and fishing at Timothy Lake, Lost Lake, Trillium Lake, and Vernonia Pond to name a few. From 2009 to 2012, Ken owned an Alumaweld boat. Ken and Shelly spent time together fishing in the Alumaweld on the Columbia River, Multnomah Channel, Green Peter Reservoir and Henry Hagg Lake. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Ken was a talented woodworker. One of his favorite things to do was just to be engaged in the process of making something beautiful out of wood. Ken poured his heart and soul into constructing unique wooden items that are cherished by many family members and friends. Ken also loved to play the guitar and sing songs. For many years he took his guitar along with him when he went on the road, until it was destroyed in a trucking accident. In the early 1980s, Ken was an avid square dancer. It could be said that Ken was incredibly lucky. He was struck by lightning three times and he lived to tell about all three instances! \ He was struck first while farming as a young boy, second time was in a thunderstorm in Georgia when he was in the Army, and the third time was when he and Shelly were trucking together in Pennsylvania and their truck was struck. Ken was involved in many serious trucking accidents, including a tremendous accident in Klamath Falls with son, Stanley Fowler, on board with him. Through the many injuries and accidents Ken was still very lucky to live to tell the tales. Ken will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He had a special way of showing his love for each and every one he knew and he truly will be missed. He is predeceased by his parents Earl and Lucille; and his step-son, Steve Fred Stalder; and the mother of his 5 step-children, Janine Fowler. Ken is survived by his loving wife Shelly; mother-in-law, Doris Beth Stewart; brothers, Dick and James Sibert; sister, Joyce Sibert; step-children: Stanley Fowler, Stewart Fowler, Joe Fowler, Brian Fowler, Melody Wilson (Fowler), Lisa Stalder Devlin (Gary); niece Leah Sibert-Guthrie; nephews: Greg Smith, Craig Smith, and Earl Sibert; step-grandchildren; Daniel Fowler, Kyle Devlin, Corina Stalder, Sarah Wilson, Mick Wilson, Delani Stalder, Nikolas Stalder-Semenova; great-nephews, Christopher Smith and Amen Guthrie; great niece, Ashley Bentley; great-great niece, Amelia Mae Bentley; close friends, John Schneider and Mike Keller; and special sister, Shelley Schneider and her two children, y and Mychael. A memorial ceremony and celebration of Kens life will take place at Skyline Memorial Gardens & , 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon, on , 20, at 1pm.
