Obituary: Ruby Louise Simpson-Fenton, or Lu to her friends, aged 94, died peacefully on 3, 2015 at home in her residence at Epworth Villa Retirement Community in Oklahoma City. Lu was born 7, 1921 in Woodward, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rev. Jerry Cecil Coover and Fern Elva Coover (Demaree). Lu lived on a farm until she was four years old, when her parents consecrated their lives to full time Christian service and her father joined the Oklahoma Methodist Conference. She graduated from Pond Creek High School and received her B.S. from Oklahoma for Women (OCW), now the University of Science and Art in Oklahoma at Chickasha, Oklahoma. Lu was always a leader in the youth program of her churches, where she also sang solos in the choir and with a girls trio during her high school years. On 8, 1942 Lu married Thomas Leslie Simpson, who became a USAF navigator and pilot during WWII, and retired as a Colonel in 1970 after 32 years of service. Throughout their career Lu and Tom moved many times, with the Methodist Church as a constant in their daily lives. Wherever they lived, Lu was busy with volunteer work. Some of the many activities in which she participated include: Grey Ladies, Red Cross, new resident integration at air bases where they lived, United Methodist Women (all offices including president for two years), youth sponsor, choir member, superintendent of Vacation Bible School, sponsor and counselor for a deaf mute Hispanic girl in Abilene, TX and a Nigerian medical student in Austin, TX, founded the Moreno Valley High School chapter of the American Field Service and served as first host family for an Italian foreign exchange student, English language adult educator in the Philippines, board member of ASTEC charter school in Oklahoma City, established a scholarship fund at Oklahoma City University, and founded the Coover Lecture Series and endowment fund in memory of her parents at Sunny Lane Methodist Church in Del City, OK, where she served as chairman of the board for 11 years. Lu and Toms son, Mike Simpson, was born 29, 1951, and is a partner at WME Entertainment and lives in Manhattan Beach, CA. Their daughter, Mindy Simpson, was born 11, 1959 and died the next day. Toms death on 8, 1977, Lu moved from their home in Austin, TX to Midwest City, OK, to be near her parents and siblings, where she married Harry Ford 3, 1983, and together they moved to Epworth Villa in 1993. Harry passed away 1, 1997, and on 21, 2002 Lu married Epworth neighbor Elliot Fenton, whose wife LeNoir had earlier passed away. Elliott turns 101 years old this month, and continues to reside at Epworth. Lu and Elliott attended Wesley Church and Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City, where they were members of both choirs, while also singing with the Epworth Villa choir. At Epworth Villa, Lu was elected to Vice President and later President of the Resident Council and Association. Lu was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jerry Coover and Jean Coover. In addition to Elliott and Mike, Lu is survived by her sisters Marie Vollmer of Epworth Villa, Ruth McClennan and Lorraine Shultz-Roberts of Oklahoma City, and Martha Inabel Wasserbeck of Palmdale, CA; brother James Coover and his wife LaRue of Tulsa, OK; grandson Thomas Austin Simpson; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Obituary: William Oram Simpson was born 12, 1926, in Caney, Atoka . He died , Dec. 6, 2016, at the age of 90. He was born to John Thomas and Lillie Mary (Armstrong) Simpson. William attended school at Post Oak grade school and Caney High School. He also attended Murray Junior in Tishomingo, OSU and Oklahoma City University. He joined the Navy in 1944, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Bremerton Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1946. the military, he went to college and received his associates degree in agriculture at Murray Junior . He played in a band while attending OSU. At Oklahoma City University, he took accounting courses. William worked for General Electric for seven years and Osborne Electric for 32 years until retirement. He married Alice Murl Armstrong on Aug. 4, 1950. William enjoyed listening to and playing Country and Bluegrass music. He played the fiddle with various groups in his earlier years, including the Caney Cowboys. William joined the Masons in 1983 and became a 33rd degree Mason. He was awarded Mason of the Year in 1999 from Lodge 36. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Jean C rites and Peggy Schroeder; brothers Kenneth, Jerry and Doyle; and his daughter, Judith Ann (Simpson) Nelson. William is survived by his wife, Alice Simpson; sons Terry Lynn (Debbie) and Aldon Duane Simpson; brother, Travis Glen (Margaret) Simpson; sister, Joyce Schroeder; brother-in-law, Albert Schroeder; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pall Bearers will be Bradley Simpson, Bruce Simpson, Eric Simpson, Randy Simpson, Scott Burns and Phillip Workman. Honorary Pall Bearers are Eddie Workman, Fred Schroeder and Cody Wayne Simpson. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park , 13400 N. Kelly in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at Rose Hill . |

Obituary: Tom entered the world on 22, 1946 to Hervey and Mary Louise and was immediately greeted with envy from his brothers, Bill and Harry, because of his cuteness, which would of course grow into handsomeness. Excelling at all things, he was welcomed with open arms into the Oklahoma Military Academy and after graduating he served his country proudly as a United States Marine. In addition to all things wonderful about him, he was also the luckiest man alive, since he was able to court and then marry the worlds best wife, mother and grandmother, Suzy, who will always and forever refer to Thomas as her Knight in Shining Armor. Some considered it impossible, but his three children, Geoffrey, Todd, and Amy are just as amazing as he was. He loved one of them more than the other two, but he never told them which one it was. Tom loved golfing, spending time with his OMA classmates, crossword puzzles, maintaining the worlds largest personal science fiction book collection, and naturally was the best grandfather to all six of his grandchildren, Colin, Mallory, Keelin, Zachary, Jackson, and Walker. There is no greater legacy than the one he left for us. He loved his family and would do anything for them, and they knew it and felt it everyday. |
