Obituary: JOHN E. SZAKAL age 81, beloved husband of the late Mary C. (nee Nemchak). Dear father of Kate Berlyoung (Scott) and Tom Szakal (Kelly). Loving grandfather of and Shelley Berlyoung and Mark and Ryan Szakal. Dear brother of Margaret Szakal, Mary Cristof (deceased), Helen Urban and Lillian Merker. John graduated from St. Margaret of Hungary Elementary School in 1948, Benedictine High School in 1952 and John Carroll University in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army for two years after graduating from college. John worked as a credit union auditor and also as a housing inspector for the city of Cleveland. His was married to his beloved wife, Mary, for over 50 years. John enjoyed spending his free time walking for exercise and working in his garden and was known in Old Brooklyn for his home grown tomatoes which he willingly shared with his neighbors. Friends received at the HOPKO FUNERAL HOME 6020 BROADVIEW RD (S OF SNOW RD) PARMA where services will be held 5, 2016 at 9:30a.m. and at St Leo The Great Church at 10a.m. Interment Calvary . Obituary: Frances L. Szakal, age 66 of Beavercreek, passed away , 20, 2015 at her home. She is survived by her husband of 44 years; Nicholas Szakal. Her children also survive her: son, Mitchell Szakal and daughter, Suzanne and husband Douglas Chapman, both of Dayton. She is also survived by her mother, Betty L. Dowd, and 2 grandchildren, Piper and Kiefer Chapman, as well as a brother, Larry (Kathy) Dowd, and numerous other loving family members and friends. Frances was a realtor in the Beavercreek area for 36 years and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the Tobias Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. on evening, 24 from 5-8 PM. services will be held at the funeral home on morning, 25, at 10 AM with Pastor Steve Kimm officiating.
