Obituary: Paul H. Suscinski of Norton, Ohio, passed away on 18, 2015 after a long and courageous fight with pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by the love and dedication of his adoring family until the end. Paul was born on 15, 1947 to Beatrice and Edward Suscinski in Akron, Ohio. He attended St. Vincent's, St. Sebastian's and Archbishop Hoban before joining the United States Marines on 4, 1966. Paul served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and earned two Purple Hearts. He graduated from the University of Akron with two degrees and spent most of his career as the Regional Claims Director for U-Haul where he oversaw the claims department for ten states. In his enormous heart, Paul carried the faces, stories and experiences from his time in Vietnam, every second of every day. He struggled with PTSD throughout his life, but never stopped trying to heal from the trauma of the war. At the age of 50, Paul retired and focused exclusively on advocating for himself and other veterans. He became an expert on veteran's benefits and resources. During the last 18 years of his life, Paul helped hundreds of his fellow veterans access services and supports. His work helped to ease the burden of the war so that he could laugh again, create beautiful necklaces, become a jelly bean connoisseur and enjoy time with his family and friends. Paul was very proud to be the Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 699 until his health no longer allowed him to continue. Under his leadership, Chapter 699 distributed thousands of free copies of the book, Tears of a Warrior, participated in Operation Stand Down and helped to bring the Dignitry moving Vietnam Wall to Akron. Paul is survived by his adoring wife of 45 years, Donna, who lovingly cared for him in sickness and in health throughout their marriage. He is also survived by his son Benjamin Paul Suscinski of Akron, Ohio, his daughter Sarah Rose Suscinski and her partner Bradley S. Miller of Vermont. With his wife, Paul worked very hard to ensure that both his children had every opportunity in life, including a Catholic school education. Sarah and Ben are both incredibly grateful and know that they could not have had a better father. Paul also leaves behind his brother Edward B. Suscinski, his wife Jane, his sister Susie VanDetta, her husband Mickey, his sister Julie Hall and her husband Jeff, his brother-in-law David Pursley and his wife Cheryl, as well as his nieces and nephews, Michael, Judy, Phyllis, Edward, Jennifer, Kit, Saige, Maria and Alyssa. He is also survived by his life-long friend David Pulizzi who was with him until the very end. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Wade Park VA Medical . are especially grateful to Brent Duffield, Elaina Marshall, Mary Lambert-Washburn and Andrea Logue. The kindness they bestowed on Paul and the family during his last days is something they will never forget. would like each of them to know that they will hold a place in their hearts forever.
