Obituary: Sister Mary Alma Schlagheck, RSM, a Sister of Mercy, quietly and peacefully returned to God on , 14, 2012 at St. Bernardine in Fremont, Ohio. Elizabeth Alma Schlagheck (Sr. Mary Alma Schlagheck,RSM) was born 31, 1916 in Toledo, Ohio to Catherine Elizabeth (Tuite) and Francis Alphonse Schlagheck. She attended St. Francis de Sales and St. Vincent de Paul grade schools, completed her secondary education at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and at Our Lady of the Pines, Fremont, OH, She received her Bachelor Degree in Education in 1943 from Mary Manse and her Masters in Education from St. Louis University in 1966 Sr. Mary Alma entered the Sisters of Mercy on 24, 1932 and made her final profession of her vows on 16, 1938 at Our Lady of the Pine in Fremont, OH. She served Gods children by teaching in elementary schools in Toledo, OH, Upper Sandusky, OH, Kirby, OH, and Mansfield, OH. She also assumed the position of Principal in some of the schools and taught music. In 1958 she moved to secondary education at McAuley High School in Toledo and remained there as Director of Economics until the school closed in 1988. Then she and her sister, Sr. Rosemary Schlagheck(who entered the Sisters of Mercy in1938) moved to Our Lady of the Pines in Fremont, OH to be members of the Retreat Team. In 2006 Sr. M. Alma retired to St. Bernardine in Fremont, OH. On 29, 2012 Sr. Mary Alma celebrated her 80th Anniversary as a Sister of Mercy. It was a quiet celebration as Sister was failing. She enjoyed being honored. Sister was a happy, peaceful, prayerful, and loving Sister of Mercy. Her Rosary is probably worn out as she used it so frequently. When she was able, she was there to assist whomever was in need. Sister Mary Almas parents and brothers, Paul, Walter, and Francis J. are deceased. She has many loving nieces and nephews, her sister, Sister Rosemary, her Mercy Sisters in religion, and Mrs. Louise Schlagheck, her sister-in-law. Visitation and Mass will be at St. Bernardine in Fremont, OH. Visitation on , 16, 2012 will be held from 3pm until 7pm, and on , 17, 2012 from 9am until 10:30. The Liturgy and Mass will be at 11am at St. Bernardine , followed by burial in Our Lady of the Pines . |

Obituary: Sister Rosemary Schlagheck died peacefully , 15, 2017 at St. Bernardine in Fremont surrounded by her sisters. She was 96 years old and a Sister of Mercy for 78 years. Sister Rosemary was born to Frank and Catherine (Tuite) Schlagheck in Toledo, OH on 16, 1920. She was one of 5 siblings. Her family was one of the founding families of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Toledo. Their parish and their faith were the center of their family life. It was at St. Vincent de Paul School that Rosemary first met the Sisters of Mercy. She was a member of the 1938 graduating class of Central Catholic High School. Rosemary entered the Novitiate of Sisters of Mercy on 9, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa, which was then part of the Cincinnati Province. Her first vows were made in Cincinnati on 12, 1941, and final vows in 1944. Sister held a Bachelors of Education degree from the Athenaeum in Cincinnati, and a Master in Education from Marygrove in Detroit. Sister Rosemary spent 46 years ministering in catholic elementary education. At various times she served at St. Catherines in Toledo, St. Marys in Kirby, St. Vincent de Paul in Toledo, St. Marys in Mansfield, St. Marys in Vermillion and St. Clements in Toledo. In addition to teaching she also held positions as principal and assistant principal as several of these schools. In 1988, she served in the retreat ministry at Our Lady of the Pines Retreat in Fremont. It was here that for the first time she and her sibling, Sister Alma, also a sister of Mercy, ministered together. In 2002, Sister Rosemary moved to St. Bernardine in Fremont where praying for the needs of others became her primary work. She was also very much a part of the community life of the sisters there and was present and fully participated in every activity and meeting scheduled up until the day she died. Sister Rosemary is survived by the members of her religious community the Sisters of Mercy, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister; Sister Alma, and brothers; Walter, Francis, and Paul. Visitation will be , 19, 2017 from 2:00 to 7:30 at St. Bernardine and on until the funeral. services will take place , 20, 2017 at 4:00 pm in St Bernardines chapel.
