Obituary: Mr. Summerlin, 84, passed away , 12, 2015. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on 2, 1930 to Charles E. Carter Sr. and Ruth B. Heggie. He was later adopted by Mr. Martin B. Summerlin of Winston-Salem. He grew up in Winston-Salem and attended Hanes High School. He then joined the U. S. Air Force in 1950 and served until 1954 when he was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sargent. He was a very patriotic citizen and proud of his service. He worked for many years for AT&T, Celanese, various printing companies until he opened Fern Printing with his wife of 54 years. He then worked for Gold Building Products and National Gypsum until he retired. He was very active in his Temple Masonic Lodge #676 A. F. & A. M., the Scotish Rite and was a member of the Red Fez Club for many years. As his family began to grow he was known affectionately by family and friends alike as Charlie, Uncle Charles, Buddy and Poppy to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known by everyone for his wonderful gardening and mechanical instincts and abilities. He was constantly tinkering and working on projects that interested him. He was always concerned for his many friends and family. He is survived by his children, Jack Summerlin and Marla Summerlin Hulon (Grady); four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, sisters Dolores Summerlin White (Bill), Kay C. Griner, and a brother Ronald Carter (Barbara) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Fern Summerlin; parents; a sister, Jeanette Summerlin Sapp; and a grandson, Timothy J. Hollar. The Masonic and Military Honors Service will take place at McEwen Service at Sharon Memorial Park at 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212 on 16, 2015 at 11:00 am. There will a brief grave side service following and then a celebration reception. In lieu of sending flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Shriners Childrens Hospital at 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or by going to the website www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org. |

Obituary: Chad Everett Summerlin of Leland, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior on 28th at the age of 32. Chad was born 24th, 1983 in Wilmington, North Carolina the youngest of three children to parents Harvey and Kathy Summerlin. To know Chad was to love him. He was a sweet soul with a kind heart and huge smile, traits of which are carried out through his precious son Christian who was the absolute love of Chad's life. The two of them spent much of their time together sharing smiles and laughter, playing football and baseball and simply enjoying their precious time together. Throughout his life, Chad was an avid athlete, excelling in baseball from his tee-ball days through high school where he was a 2001 graduate of South Brunswick. Chad received an Associates Degree from Brunswick Community . Chad loved the outdoors, especially hunting and spending time with his grandfather, Wilber Earl Rabon, who preceded him in death in 2013. Chad's paternal Grandfather, Harvey Summerlin Sr. and Grandmother, Orel Summerlin also preceded him in death. Chad is survived by his son Christian Summerlin; his parents Harvey and Kathy Summerlin of Leland; two sisters Holly Summerlin Sellers and husband Michael Lynn of Bolivia and Erica Summerlin Kopp and husband Daniel of Murrells Inlet, SC; Great-Grandmother Alma Anderson and Grandmother Doris Rabon of Leland; nieces and nephews Macy and Gage Sellers, Sarah Katherine, Anna and Daniel Kopp. Additionally, his very special Aunt Melody Lugo and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Serving as pall bearers are Brad Huffstetler, Corey Polanski, Christopher Rabon, Brandon Rabon, Greg Skipper, Heath Summerlin, Jeff Summerlin, Joe White, and Chip Orr. The visitation will be held on , 2nd, at 2:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm at Zion United Methodist Church, 6864 Zion Church Road NE, Leland, NC.
