Obituary: Stephen Michael Stroud, 70, passed away at his home on May 31, 2014. He was born in Gaston and was the son of the late Clarence Stroud and Delphia Schultz Stroud. Mr. Stroud was a World Class Backgammon Player. He was also a Golden Gloves Fly Weight Boxing champion in the southeastern region of NC from 1960-1962 as well as a Champion Roller Hockey Player in Gaston in the late 1950s. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends; he was also an avid sports spectator, specializing in statistical analysis, and was a fine quality smoking aficionado. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Todd Stroud. Surviving are his sons, Randy Stroud of Alexis, NC and Joshua Stroud of Gastonia; daughter Rhonda Canipe and husband, Daniel Canipe of Lincolnton; brother, Bobby Stroud of Mt. Holly and grandchildren, Jeremy, Chasity, J.T., Robbie, Rachel, Trevor, and Auren Stroud; great grandchildren, Xavier and Justin Hood; Elijah, Todd and Zakkary Stroud. A Celebration of Michaels life will be held at Michaels home on , 14, 2014 from 5-9 pm. are in the care of Carothers 312, W. 2nd Ave., Gastonia. Obituary: Sheila Morris Stroud, 63, of Charlotte, died , May 9, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. , May 13, 2010 at McEwen - Mint Hill Chapel. A service from the graveside will be held 2:00 p.m. , May 14, 201 at Sharon Memorial Park with The Reverend Bruce Powell officiating. Sheila was born 31, 1946 and grew up in Matthews, NC. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who loved by many. She struggled with acute rheumatoid arthritis most of her life and was extremely brave to the end. Sheila loved people and life. Survivors include her husband, Michael C. Stroud; daughter, Lucinda Stroud; mother, Fran Morris; sister, Marion Quinn and her husband, Richard E Quinn; brother, H. Burt Morris and his wife, Annette Morris; three loving nieces and their families; and girlfriends who loved her like a sister.
