Obituary: OBITUARY Wade, NC Mr. Thomas Walter Strickland, Jr., age 92, of Scottie Godwin Rd., Wade died , 5, 2014, at his home. Mr. Strickland was born 10,1922 in Cumberland the son of the late Thomas Walter & Vera McMillan Strickland and is preceded in death by his wife Pearlean Strickland, a son, Larry Strickland, a brother, John Olive Strickland and 3 sisters, Mildred Allene Strickland, Betty Ann Lucas and Ruth Grey Strickland. Mr. Strickland is a World War II Army Veteran and was awarded the Eamet Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was retired from Seaboard Coast Line Railroad with 35 years of service. He was a dedicated member of McMillan Presbyterian Church from 1937 till 2000 where he was elected as Deacon in 1946, and served as Elder for over 50 years. He also served as School Superintendent and in other leadership roles. He joined Antioch Baptist Church in 2000 where he served as Deacon. His community involvement also included serving on the Board of Directors of the Wade Fire Department. A Service will be held , 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon with Rev. Sammy McLamb & Rev. Donald Harris officiating . Burial will follow in McMillan Presbyterian Church . Surviving include: His son: Tony Strickland and wife Billie Jo Granddaughters: Tracie Strickland Nunnery and husband Jamie Candice Brooke Strickland Great Granddaughters: Taylor Nunnery and Morgan Nunnery A Sister: Patsy Stewart and husband Wilbert 2 Brothers: William (Billy) Strickland and wife Barbara Bobby Strickland Several Nieces and Nephews The Family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at Antioch Baptist Church. Obituary: Canton- Theodore Roosevelt J.C. Strickland, age 84, formerly of Beth Hill Court, passed away on , 8, 2015 at Asheville Heath . A native of Haywood , he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel Ruff Strickland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Wells Strickland, who died in 2000; and a brother, Kenneth Strickland. He retired from Biltmore Dairy after serving the company for many years. He enjoyed gardening as well as being outdoors. He is survived by a daughter, Lynn Dawson and her husband, John, of Arden; a step-daughter, Patty Kirkpatrick Clark of Canton; three sons, Ernest Strickland of Asheville, Calvin Strickland and his wife, Elizabeth, of Crestwood, Illinois, and Roy Strickland and his wife, Cindy, of wood, Illinois; a step-son, Robert Bruce Kirkpatrick of Fletcher; four brothers, Joseph Strickland of Leicester, Danny Strickland of Canton, Lee Roy Strickland and his wife, Frances, of Clyde, and Allen Strickland of Waynesville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on , 13, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells with the Reverend James King officiating. Obituary: Tanya Diane Strickland, 41, departed this life, unexpectedly, , 17, 2014 at Wake Medical . She was the loving daughter of Robert and Connie Strickland of Raleigh and Patricia Faye Strickland and Jim Graziano of Hampstead and the mother of her 10 year old daughter Harley Diane Taylor of Hampstead. She is also survived by her grandparents, Doris Douglas of Corinth-Holders, and Rose and Vernon Carter of Mount Olive, NC, as well as a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins throughout North Carolina. Tanya will be remembered for her good heart, laughter, love of music, love of friends & family , and her ability to chime into any conversation with knowledge. She was an avid writer, keeping journals almost daily, and occasionally wrote poetry. Harley was dearly loved and cherished by her mom. The memories of camping, riding rides, swimming and simply hanging out will never be forgotten .She loved her daughter more than life itself, and she will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on 31, 2014 at 3 p.m. ,Faith Harbor United Methodist Church, 14201 NC HWY 50, Holly Ridge, N.C. 28445. The family will receive friends , 21, 2014, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.at Miilbrook Chapel, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her memory to The Healing Place of Wake or "Share the Table", c/o Faith Harbor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2713, Surf City, N.C. 28445. Tanya was born in Raleigh NC on 28, 1973. She attended Millbrook High School, and Wake Tech, before moving to Kona, Hawaii where she worked in the hospitality industry. She returned to North Carolina in 2003 to give birth to her daughter Harley. She lived for 8 years in Surf City where she was employed by several local businesses.
