Obituary: Robert Lee Straley, 84 of New Bern, passed away peacefully , 11, 2015, at his home with his family at his side. Bob retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sgt. Major, after 26 years of faithful service and a tour in Vietnam. He was also a member of the River Bend Country Club and New Bern Elks Lodge #764. Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed his family and traveling. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and Sister Mary Lou Brown of Fayetteville, NC. He is survived by his wife Ida Straley, his son Wayne Straley and Daughter in Law, Pat, of Alexandria VA, two Nephews; Doug and Denny, and a Niece, Terry. A memorial service will be held , 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm at the New Bern Elks Lodge, 1175 Pinetree Dr, New Bern, NC 28562. The family will receive friends on hour prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobs honor to Craven Hospice, Craven Department Foundation, Inc. PO Drawer 12610, New Bern, NC 28561. |

Obituary: Rose Marie Wesson Strait, 83, died , 11, 2013 at the Hospice of Wake . She was born in Saginaw, MI on 17, 1930 to the late William Aaron and Hazel Bolster Wesson. She married W.E. "Jack" Strait on 7, 1951, who predeceased her on Jan 24, 1998. Rose was an active volunteer all of her life in Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Crippled Children, American Cancer Society, Hospital Auxiliary, School teacher, Special Olympics, and many other service groups. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood ( Chapter Z) and served on the NC State Executive Board for 7 years and as its President 1988-1989. She was a member of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Daniel Guy Strait, and daughter, Kathryn Ann Strait, close family friend, Denis Holliday, and grandson, Luke Johnson, all of Raleigh; sister, Mary Miller of Saginaw, MI; brother, Guy Wesson of Frankenmuth, MI; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Graham of Supply, NC; brother-in-law, Richard Busch of Bay City, MI, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by another brother, Robert Wesson of Saginaw, MI. A memorial service will be held at Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, on , 15, 2013 at 1 pm. Visitation will be following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: The P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312; Hospice of Wake , 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607; Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612; or a charity of your choice. |
