Obituary: Sandy passed away on the 23rd of at 8:35 in the morning at the same place she started out in the world; Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC. A lifelong Baptist and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for more than 25 years, she is now at home with her Lord and Savior as well as her departed loved ones in Christ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel Helena Borders toney as well as her father Vinnis P. Toney, her sister, Beverly Anne Miller, cousin, Elizabeth Glenn, her uncles and all but one of her aunts, son, Christopher Ryan Stone, and beloved daughter Lori Anne Stegall. Having attended schools in Charlotte, Florida and Comstock, TX, she graduated high school at Garinger High School in charlotte before attending college. Her professional life was primarily in the insurance industry as an actuary, risk manager and a client manager. For many years she worked for McNeary Insurance Consultants with the Georgia Hospital association. Upon returning to Charlotte from Atlanta, she worked for Willis of NC, a division of one of the largest insurance brokers in the world, until her retirement. Her humor, compassion and love dictated all of her life. She was a mother to those without. She was a confidant to the unheard and lonely. And she was a fierce believer in both human rights as well as equal rights for all. She loved to sew and spent many hours doing so. Mainly, however, she was an avid reader, reading more than 35 books a year, as well as a devout artist spending months at a time painting both landscapes and portraits. She is survived by her loving son James Marley Stegall, Jr. and his wife Tammy, her son Jonathan Edward Stone and his companion Tiffany Hults, her sister Patricia Moore and her husband Jimmy, her nephew Martin Miller and her grandchildren: JT Stegall, Jacob Stegall, MacKenzie Stegall and Kaelyn Stone. She is further survived by her devoted husband, James E. Stone, as well as an aunt and many cousins in Texas. |

Obituary: Samuel y Stone Mr. Stone of Charlotte, NC, passed away on 25, 2010. He was born in Siler City, NC, a son of the late Lura and John Stone. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He had been in the finance business and retired from Commercial Real Estate. He was listed in the top 10 brokers in Charlotte in 1986, 87 and 1988. He was Past President of the Retail Credit Association and past member of the Optimist Club, City Club, Tower Club and Goodfellows. Mr. Stone was a member of Myers Park Country Club, Myers Park Methodist Church, the Luther Snyder Bible Class and served on the Usher Committee. He was one of the organizers of the Heart Ball and served as Chairman of the first Heart Ball. He was a member of the Mint Museum and former Collectors Circle within the Mint. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed dancing and reading. Mr. Stone is survived by his wife ; son Donald and wife, Lynette; grandson Nick, all of Winnetka, Illinois; nephews, Herman and Ron Stone of Charlotte, Elmer Stone of Florida and three nieces. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on , 28, 2010 at Harry & Bryant , Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Interment in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Harry & Bryant is serving the family. |

Obituary: Ruthann Rupp Stone of Cary died peacefully on , May 14, 2014 after a spirited yearlong battle with ovarian cancer. Her loving husband of 38 years, Bob, was by her side. Ruthann was born in Toledo, OH on Nov. 10, 1950. In her adult years she relocated to MD where she spent more than 25 years caring for children at St. Pauls Christian Childrens in Upper Marlboro, Md. retiring in 2010, she and Bob relocated to Cary, NC to be closer to family. She devoted her time to her grandchildren, volunteering at their school, and enjoyed playing mahjong with her neighborhood friends. Ruthann was predeceased by her parents, Glenford and Athelia Rupp of Toledo, OH, and by her grandson Jackson Stone. She is survived by her husband Bob Stone of Cary, NC, son Tim Stone (w. Obituary: Robert Herrin Stone Sr., (Stoney), 89, of Greensboro, NC passed away on May 14, at Beacon Place Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, , at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel with entombment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM, , at the funeral home. Stoney was born in Greensboro on 9, 1925 to Richard and Inez Williams Stone. He attended Greensboro High School and enlisted in the Navy at age 17 where he served on the USS OToole (DE 527) during WWII. Returning home he completed high school after which he attended Campbell . Back in Greensboro, he met the love of his life, Alice Irene Newnam, whom he married on 10, 1950 at First Baptist Church of Greensboro. While parenting five active children, Stoney was involved in coaching numerous youth league sports teams at First Baptist Church where he had also served as a deacon. Stoney retired from AT&T in 1984 after a career of 32 years. For over 10 years after retirement, he worked as a bus driver for the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department Special Populations Unit. Stoney was passionately involved in the Greensboro Special Olympics Program for over 30 years coaching softball, basketball, bowling, track and field, bocce, and golf. He was Special Olympics coach of the year in 1970 and coached in the Special Olympics World Games in 1983. Other awards and honors include State Special Olympics Coach of the Year and Parent of the Year 1986-1987. He was also honored by the Greensboro News and Record as Senior Citizen of the Month in , 1990 and , 1995. Stoney was predeceased by his wife, Alice Newnam Stone; two daughters, Janis Elizabeth Stone and Lynn Stone Levine; brothers, Richard, Tom and Edgar Stone; and sisters, Kathryn Stone Fitchet, Nell Stone Faucette and Inez Stone Heckle. He is survived by sons, Robert Herrin Stone Jr. of Raleigh, Charles Michael Stone and John Richard Stone and wife Claire, both of Greensboro; son-in- law, Barry Levine of Brown Summit; grandson, Dylan Joyner Stone of Raleigh; and step grandchildren, Gene, Terrance, Christine, Rick and Peggy. Special thanks are extended to family, close friends and caretakers of Comfort Keepers and Beacon Place Hospice, all of whom have provided loving care and support during this time.
