Obituary: Mary Jane Anderson Stiver, 93, a resident of Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina, passed away on , 3, 2015. She was born on 2, 1922, in Washington, DC, the first child of Gunnar Ivan (G.I.) and Ruth Elizabeth Anderson Anderson. Her father arrived in America from Sweden through Ellis Island in 1916. Her mothers parents, the Andersons, had arrived from Sweden in the 1870s, settling in Duluth, Minnesota. Her parents met in a Lutheran Church in Washington, DC, during World War I. Jane grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. Her father was a successful plumber and contractor. She attended Bethesda Elementary, Leland Junior High and Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, graduating in 1939. One of her favorite memories was attending the White House Easter Egg Roll. She kept the invitation from Eleanor Roosevelt. Upon graduation from high school, Jane pursued a degree in nursing. She began at Capital University and completed her degree at John Hopkins School of in 1944. She served as an Army Corps Nurse (Second Lieutenant) from 1944 to 1945 at Brooke Army Medical in San Antonio, Texas. Following the war, she earned a BS in Public at Vanderbilt University (1948). Vanderbilt, she worked as a public health nurse in New Orleans, where she met and married The Reverend Stanley L. Stiver, Jr., on 20, 1949. lived for a year in New Orleans where their first child, John Mark Stiver, was born. The family moved to Wheeling, West Virginia, where Reverend Stiver served as pastor of St. Marks Lutheran Church until 1959. Their second child, David James Stiver was born in Wheeling. During the summer of 1959, the family moved to Claremont, North Carolina, where Pastor and Mrs. Stiver lived and devoted their lives to St. Marks Lutheran Church until 1990. Pastor Stiver served as a Lutheran minister and community leader with Jane by his side. could be seen walking hand and hand until his passing in 2011. moving to Claremont, Jane continued her career by teaching briefly at Lenoir Rhyne (now University) in Hickory. She continued her teaching for seven years at Davis Hospital School of in Statesville before becoming its director in 1973. She earned a Master of Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1976. She liked to tell the story of how she participated on the ropes course with the young students. Jane will be fondly remembered for her baking skills, especially cookies and cakes for the church and Blood Mobile. Stanley and Jane traveled extensively in Scandinavia, Europe, Holy Lands, Russia and China leaving behind many journals and slides of their trips. Along with her husband and parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Elizabeth Anderson Schlenk of Marietta, Georgia, and Ruth Iva Anderson Hansen of Duluth, Minnesota. She leaves behind her two sons, John Mark Stiver and his wife, Rebecca, of Newton, and David James Stiver and his wife, Lynn, of San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Stiver of Newton, Mark Elliott Stiver and his wife, Magdalyn, of Greensboro, NC, Daniel OConnor of Salt Lake City, UT, and Steven Arthur OConnor and his wife, Marisol, of South Pasadena, CA; three great-grandchildren, James, Franklin and Hyacinth; a brother, Paul Gunnar Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Janes life will be held at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, Claremont, North Carolina, on , 11, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., Reverend Dr. Gary Haddock and Reverend Paul Christ officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Stiver, Glen Morrison, Charles Connor, III, Nicky Setzer, Jim Carpenter and Jerry Hodge. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Sanctuary at St. Marks. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at St. Marks . Obituary: Margie Ann Stiver, 84, passed away on 4, 2016 at Laurels of Forest Glen in Garner. Born on 7, 1931 in Butler , Ohio; she was the daughter of the late Walter Creech and Etta Helen Lainhard Creech and wife of the late John William Stiver. Margie graduated from Camden High School in Ohio and retired from IBM as an assembler, being the first woman to work on the robotic arm and the grocery store scanners. She and John were avid bowlers on the IBM Watson League. She is survived by her son, John W. Stiver, Jr. and wife Kathi Stiver of Raleigh; her daughter, Brenda J. Stiver of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Christopher C. Stiver, Dakota A. Stiver, Chloe Pearce, and Phillip Batchelor; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, and Gabrielle Pearce and Gracie Batchelor; siblings: Betty Nadeau, of Eaton, OH and Ronald Creech and wife Shirley, of CA; and by her faithful companion, Bella the Chihuahua. She was also preceded in death by siblings: Billy Creech, Don Creech and Josephine Ward. Family will receive friends on evening from 7-9 pm at Mitchell (7209 Glenwood Avenue). Obituary: John William Stiver, 84 went to be with the Lord on 17, 2014. 22, 1930- 17, 2014 He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margie Creech Stiver; his son, John W. Stiver, Jr. and wife Kathi Stiver of Raleigh; his daughter, Brenda J. Stiver of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Christopher C. Stiver, Dakota A. Stiver, Chloe Pearce, and Phillip Bachelor; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, and Gabrielle Pearce and Gracie Bachelor. John was the son of Harry Theordore Stiver and Mary Zimmerman Stiver, preceding him in death. He was the grandson of John Stiver and Mary Jyuenke also preceding him in death. John was 2nd of 9 children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Stiver Jr., and Robert Stiver, his sisters Mary Stiver and Jean Webb. He is survived by his brothers Frank Stiver of Dixon, Tennessee, Richard Stiver of West Manchester, Ohio, Wesley Stiver of Lewisburg, Ohio and his sister, Betty Gilbert of Mansville, Texas. John graduated from Jefferson High School in New Paris, Ohio and was an Alumni of Valparaiso Technical Institute, Valparaiso Indiana receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. John was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army where he received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars and the UN Service Medal. John retired from IBM after 31 years of service where he worked as an Electrical Engineer. Visitation for family and friends will be at Mitchell , 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612 on , 20, 2014 from 6pm-8pm and one hour prior to the funeral service. Services will be held at Mitchell , , 21, 2014 at 1pm with burial to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Obituary: Doris Ann Fitzke Stitt, 74, of 3304 Pinehurst Road, Statesville, died , 12, 2011, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born May 23, 1937, in Hopelawn, NJ, and was the daughter of the late Karl and a Zangenberg Fitzke. She was a devoted and faithful homemaker whose greatest joy was her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl Fitzke and Robert Fitzke. Doris is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ralph M. Stitt, whom she married on 12, 1972; a daughter, Kelly Stitt Sloan (Doug) of Jacksonville, FL; three sons, Steve Veczko of Willingboro, NJ, Mike kVeczko (Karen) and Bill Veczko, both of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Bill Veczko, Mike Veczko, Kimberly Veczko and Joey Veczko, all of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Joyce Mount (Dave) and Frances Patz, both of Jacksonville, FL; and two brothers, Jerry Fitzke of Chattanooga, TN, and Leroy Fitzke (Valerie) of Jacksonville, FL. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative of Iredell , 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
