Obituary: Barbara Jean Russel Hanson Steel, know to her family simply as Barbara, passed away peacefully on 1, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was 87. Barbara was born to Ruth Beattie Russell and Frank Lauraman Russell in Oak Park, lllinois, on 15, 1927. She graduated high school and attended business college in the Chicago area. She was married to Raymond Odell Russell until his death in 1976. She married Albert Logan Steel Jr in 1995, and lived in Greensboro, NC, for many years until she and Logan relocated to Greenville and then to New Bern, NC. Barbara was a copious reader, cross word puzzler, and experienced world traveler. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, and a beloved daughter. She is survived by three grandsons, her sister-in-law Harriet Wills of Suffolk, Virginia, and her two step-sons, George Logan Steel of Burke, Virginia and John Griffith Steel, MD of New Bern, NC and a step great-grandson Nicholas Steel of Burke, VA. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the love and care extended to Logan and Barbara Steel by the staff of Place, New Bern, NC, and for the excellent care given to them both in their last days by Craven Hospice. are by Cotten & Crematory. |

Obituary: Albert Logan Steel, Jr., passed peacefully to his Heavenly home on 13, 2014 after a brief illness. Logan was born in Richmond, Virginia, on 1, 1926. He was 88 years old. He attended Richmond for two years before joining the U.S. Navy Air Corps, and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for Pre-Flight school. WWII ended, he returned to Chapel Hill to finish college. Thereafter he worked for New York Life Insurance for many years, being a successful salesman, financial consultant and community leader in Greensboro, NC. He enjoyed sports, shooting, skeet, travel, photography, computers, bowling, and collecting vintage movies and music. Dads proudest accomplishment was his work with the Shriners, becoming a Mystic Shrine and a Master of the Scottish Rite of the 32nd degree. Always a student, he earned his CLE in 1974 and CFC in 1983. Logan was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Logan Steel and Virginia Hasker Steel, of Virginia and his sister Jean Doan Steel, of Florida. Logan is survived by his wife, Barbara Hansen Steel, of Place, New Bern; his sister Harriet Steel Wills; his three sons George Logan Steel, John Griffith Steel, and Joseph Usher Steel; his daughter Virginia Steel Hubock; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Logan will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern, on , 14, at 10:00 am. A reception at the church will follow. |
