Obituary: Virginia Stephens Starnes, 91, of Connelly Springs, passed away on , 2, 2021 at her residence following a period of declining health. Virginia was born 3, 1929 in Burke to the late John C. Stephens and Beatrice Fowler Stephens. She was a devoted Christian and long time member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church; where she enjoyed volunteering her time with the Shekinah Food Ministry. Virginia worked her entire career in the hosiery industry. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Willard, Ernest, Jack and Dean Stephens; sister, Louise Glasbrook; and granddaughter, Jacqueline Starnes. She is survived by her children, Steve Starnes of Connelly Springs, and Sandra Townsend Bishop of Hickory; grandsons, John Starnes of Conover and Matthew Townsend of Hickory; sister, Margarette Polson of Camden, SC; brother, Richard Stephens and wife Beth Henry of Charlotte, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on , 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Service with Pastor Nick Wilson and Rev. Darrell Webb officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Heritage Service. Obituary: HICKORY- Sarah Colleen Seabock Starnes, 90, passed away , 12, 2015 at Catawba Valley Medical after a brief illness. Colleen was born 2, 1925 in PineTops, NC to the late Ivan Ray and Blanche Lail Seabock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oran Odell Starnes Sr. her sister Hazel and brother-in-law Lohr Loveland Sr. and her son-in-law Lt. Robert Carson Jr. Colleen began her teaching career at Granite Falls High School. She retired from Catawba School System where she taught at St. Stephens High School. She was a very active member at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Viewmont where she participated in Handbells, Esther Circle and numerous other activities over her lifetime. She served as church organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 25 years. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Hickory Soup Kitchen and Bloodmobiles. As a retired teacher she was a member of NCRSP. Surviving are her daughter, Lynnette Carson of Hickory, son, Oran Odell "Del" Starnes Jr. and wife Cindy of Hickory, daughter Kathryn Duarte and husband Derison of Chapel Hill, grandchildren and great grandchildren include Robert Lee Carson III and partner Jose Carabello of Washington, DC, Sarah Carson Phelps and husband David and their daughters Avery and Allison of Greenville, SC, Susannah Carson Galloway and husband Michael and their daughter Berit of Taylors, SC, Tyler Odell Starnes and son, Hudson, of Hickory, Joshua James Starnes of Richmond, VA, Abigail Renee Starnes of Hickory, Alyssa Ruth Starnes of Hickory, NC and Marshall Ray Duarte of Chapel Hill, nephew Lohr Loveland, Jr. of Connelly Springs, family friend Steve Brittain of Claremont, and numerous other nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregivers Sandy Phillips, Pat Stafford, and Carmen Brookshire, for their love and support. The family will receive friends , 15th, from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Viewmont. Services will be , 15th, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with Reverend David R. Keck Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church . Obituary: Ruth Elaine Miller Starnes, 89, passed away peacefully on 18, 2017. Ruth enjoyed life and loved having friends and family over for cook outs. She was known as "The candy lady" at Robinson Presbyterian Church where she was a member for several decades. Ruth made the best homemade biscuits and chicken and dumplings in town. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Starnes; son, Robert Jeffrey; grandson, Michael Starnes Jr., and two brothers, David and Herb.
