Obituary: John Victor Stanley, Sr., 95, of New Bern, passed away on , 15, 2016 at his home in Clayton, NC. Vic retired from the New Bern Fire Department, where he was Fire Chief for 3 years and proudly served his country in the Navy. He was also a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, and helped build First Church in New Bern. Vic was an avid fisher who loved the outdoors. He is survived by his son James Stanley and his wife Betty; 2 sisters, Maxine Cooper, and Joyce Wyatt and her husband I.C.; and eighteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family will receive friends for a visitation at Cotten on , 20, 2016 from 12:00-2:00pm. Graveside service will follow at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Obituary: Winston-Salem John R. Stanley Sr., 84, of Winston-Salem, died ( 7th) at the Forsyth Medical . Born in Surry , Mr. Stanley retired after twenty nine years as a salesman with P. Lorillard Tobacco . He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Philippine Islands. Mr. Stanley was predeceased by his parents Eugene Solomon and Mary Lee (Coe) Stanley and his wife Helen Banner Stanley. Surviving family includes his daughter Judy Stanley Cardwell of Winston-Salem; son John R. (Johnny) Stanley Jr. and his wife Pat of Durham; granddaughter Tiffany Martin and husband Brad of Statesville; brother Bill T. Stanley and wife Peggy of Winston-Salem, twin brother Jim G. Stanley and wife Faye of Dobson; sisters Mary Cole of Mt. Airy and Kay Smith of Lewisville; several nieces and nephews; and his companion Geneva Terry of Winston-Salem. His hobbies included collecting and repairing used cars. Mr. Stanley enjoyed Blue Grass music and was a gifted anjo picker. The family will visit with their friends on ( 10th) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Vogler Reynolda Chapel, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem (336-722-6106). A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on ( 11th) 11:00 AM at the Vogler Reynolda Chapel. Burial will follow, including full military honors, at the Double Creek Church of Christ , Rockford (Surry ). Obituary: Jewell Grey Otto Stanley, 80, the daughter of the late Edgar B. and Bertie Jones Otto passed away , funeral services will be held 2:00 in the Chapel of McLaurin with Pastor Bobby Heath officiating. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Clayton. She is survived by her sister; JoAnn O. Chapman and husband Younger M. Chapman of Goldsboro, Uncle; Paul K. Otto of Clayton, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Ms. Stanley was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlie Otto, Horace Otto and Marshall Otto. Ms. Stanley was born and raised in Wilson Mills where she learned the value of hard work at an early age, from picking cotton and barning tobacco to her retirement as the Deputy Chief of Supply for the 4th Supply Squadron at Seymour Johnson AFB. She never had children so she looked upon several of the Airmen and women as her children looking after them during their time of need. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a long time member of Stoney Creek Church. While flowers are accepted memorial contributions may be made to: Community Baptist Church, 351 Antioch Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
