Obituary: Anna Katherine Collins Sprenger, 87, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family and close friends on 19, 2011. Ann was a native of Greenville, Mississippi. She and her husband Dick moved to New Bern from Williamsburg, Virginia in 1987. Shortly thereafter she became a member of Garber United Methodist Church. Ann will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a homemaker, an accomplished interior decorator, a business owner and gardener. Her gardens were lovingly planned and nurtured. Ann enjoyed watching her roses and other plants grow and it was evident that she had been blessed with a special gift. Her gardens were where she felt closest to her heavenly Father. She will be greatly missed. Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty three years, Richard William Sprenger. She is survived by two sons, Michael Richard Sprenger and wife, Shelley of Cheney, Washington, and William Lee Sprenger and wife, Joseline of Stokes, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Nikki Falor and husband, Blake of Jamestown, ND, Jessica Ann Sprenger and Michael Richard Sprenger both of Cheney, WA and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on , 22, 2011 in the Columbarium of Garber United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at 113 Turnberry Court in Trent Woods, following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community and Hospice, 1319-A S. Glenburnie Road, New Bern, NC 28562. |

Obituary: Mr. William James Spreitzer, Sr., 82, of Clayton died , 13, 2016 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born May 27, 1933 in Berlin, NJ son of the late Joseph M. and Margaret M. Spreitzer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hersey Spreitzer, a brother, Joseph W. Spreitzer, and a sister, Margaret Spreitzer Pajic. Mr. Spreitzer was in the Navy reserve for 8 years. He was a machinist the majority of his life and was also a master carpenter. He was truly a jack of all trades. He loved to play golf and after he married his wife Jean, they enjoyed spending the winters together in Florida and Hawaii. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post # 71. A graveside service will be held , 17 at 2:00 P.M. in Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at McLaurin . He is survived by his five daughters, Joanne Lee and husband Terry, Suzanne Williams and husband Marty, Ruthanne Edwards and husband Steve, Marie Averitt, and Dianne Hersey and husband Tyrone, ten grandchildren, Terry Lee, Jr., Nicole Lee, Sara Call, Jennifer Haynes, Joe Williams, Ben Edwards, Hannah Vanos, Megan Farrell, Jillian Farrell, and Vanessa Hersey-Tart, and six great grandchildren, Riley and Emma Williams, Skylar Call, Charles and Henry Haynes, and Liam Hersey-Tart. Obituary: Melba von Sprecken, 88, died peacefully when she decided she was ready, after being surrounded by her children for three days. Melba was the quintessential steel magnolia, an irresistible loving force in the universe for her children, grandchildren and all who had been fortunate enough to know her. She was a champion for those she served and never gave in to pressure from those who did not share her commitment and vision to better the lives of those around her. Melba was born in Mooresville, NC in 1927 to Elmore and Lois Bailey. Her parents also helped raise her cousin, Margaret Lucas, and the two were as close as sisters could be. She was a war bride of WWII and had twins, Ron McLuen and Connie Stallings, by her first husband, Carl McLuen. She graduated from Queens and worked at Barium Springs Orphanage for over six years, where she was named Teacher of the Year. The junior and senior classes of Barium Springs attended her wedding when she remarried Bob von Sprecken, Sr. in 1955. The two had Melbas third child, Bob von Sprecken, Jr. Melba lived most of her adult life in Charlotte, NC, where she was a long time member of Myers Park United Methodist Church and the Fellowship School class. Never one to sit idly, she worked as a nutritionist for the Huntersville Learning Academy, and went on to become the first female department head for Mecklenburg , where she served as the Director of the Senior Hot Lunch program. In this role she provided a caring environment where thousands of elderly in Mecklenburg received a hot meal and an opportunity to fellowship. Her advocacy for senior citizens continued as she was appointed to the Governors Council on Aging by Jim Hunt, and served there from 1972 to 1985. She was also the Mecklenburg recipient of the National Association of Governments Achievement award. Additionally, she provided volunteer leadership to the YWCA and the Florence Crittenton Counseling service. But her children remember her for beach gatherings, Christmases, and birthday celebrations that were marked by love, laughter, and Southern sweet tea with a lemon in it.and the way she could keep them in line by arching a single eyebrow. In addition to her children, she is survived by Fred Stallings, husband of Connie Stallings, Lisa von Sprecken, wife of Bob von Sprecken, and grandchildren Megan Stallings, Nathaniel von Sprecken, Learyn von Sprecken, and Annalise von Sprecken. Melba's family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. , 28th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. A funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. , 29th at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Melba's life. The family would like to thank Compassionate , Aldersgate, and Hospice for their care. Obituary: Kenneth Anton Spratte, age 74, died in Raleigh, NC, on 21, 2011. Ken was born 18, 1936 to the late and Theresa Spratte in Chicago, IL. serving in the Army (stationed in Japan in 1954), Ken went on to work for the federal government as a JCL Specialist in computer programming for 32 years. Ken enjoyed travel. He was also a longtime Minnesota Vikings fan. Even in the bad seasons. Most of all he was a devoted and loving husband and father who will be deeply missed. Ken is survived by his wife of 42 years Elizabeth Spratte; son David Spratte with his wife Laura of Raleigh; and Kens sister Carol. He was preceded in death by his son, Alan. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., , 29, 2011, at Brown-Wynne , 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh.
