Obituary: Lake Junaluska, Jimmy Russell Sparkman, age 74, passed away on , 26, 2015 at Partners Hospice Solace in Asheville. Jimmy was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed living by the ocean for 54 years. He was the son of the late Wade and Irene Zetterhour Sparkman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Jimmy worked 35 years for Florida National and First Union Banks as Vice President of Operations. He was a former member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and a current member of Grace Church in the Mountains, where he served as a lay reader and usher. Jimmy and his wife, Kay, retired and moved to Lake Junaluska, NC in 1995. He enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, traveling, fishing, cooking, going to the movies and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kay Higginbotham Sparkman, and his two children. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on , 21, 2016 at Grace Church in the Mountains. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Church in the Mountains Property Preservation, 394 North Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. |
