Obituary: Mr. Timothy TJ James Spain, 41, of Hickory, passed away on , 9, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem. TJ was born 14, 1975, in Memphis, MO, to Timothy G. Spain and Beverly Van Baalen Spain now of Cedar Rapids, IA. TJ was a 1993 graduate from Marshalltown High School (Marshalltown, IA), where he was a member of the band and chorus, and lettered in swimming all four years. He graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University (Hickory, NC) in 1998, where he was a brother in the Theta XI Fraternity; and began teaching at East Burke High School (Icard, NC) in the fall of 1998. TJ was currently teaching at Draughn High School (Valdese, NC) . He will always be remembered for his great love of Star Wars, corny jokes, traveling, photography, trivia, reading, attending beer tastings, and he enjoyed cooking and canning. TJ is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hollis and Esther Spain and Russell and Velma Van Baalen; and Uncle Terry Van Baalen. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Megan Spain of Cedar Rapids; Uncle Keith Van Baalen of Portland, OR; Aunt Sharon Fick of Rocky Mount, NC; and numerous cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles; and countless friends, co-workers, and current and former students. A Celebration of Life will be held on , 15, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at Draughn High School. The body will lie in state at Heritage Service on from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Interment will follow at a later date at Silent City in Monroe, IA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Tim Spain Scholarship Fund at 709 Lovelady Rd NE, Valdese, NC 28690; (828) 879-4200. Obituary: Sun Journal Newspaper to correct the time of the service to 1 PM . Ralph Donald Spain, son of the late Irvin and Dollie Spain, went to meet his Lord on 7, 2016 at the age of 81. He was born in Pitt and spent most of his childhood in Jacksonville, NC. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville, NC in 1954 later serving in the National Guard for six years. He was employed with NCDMV and worked as a Drivers License Examiner retiring as Senior Examiner in the City of New Bern after 30 years in multiple districts. He served as a faithful deacon and trustee for 30 years, as well as a dedicated soul winner. Loved and respected by all who had the opportunity of meeting him, he touched many lives with his spiritual leadership. He was an amazing husband of 54 years, married the love of his life 6, 1961. He was a loving father and grandfather of two children and two grandchildren, the best neighbor any one could ask for, a devoted friend to many, but most important, he put God first, always displaying his love for the Lord. He is survived by his wife Lynda Huffman Spain, daughter and son Donna Dail and Keith Spain and wife Dawn Spain, 2 granddaughters, Julie and Katie Donohue, and 2 brothers Melvin and Ronald Spain. The viewing and family visitation will be held on , 9, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Cotten , 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC 28560. On , 10 2016 at 1 oclock a celebration of his life will be held at New Life Baptist Church (formerly Pleasant Acres) 2911 Old Cherry Point Rd., New Bern, NC 28560.
