Obituary: Gerald David Sipe, age 76, of Newton, passed away on , 25, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice, Sherrills Ford. Born 29, 1939 in Catawba , he was the son of the late Harold Barringer and Rena Shook Bailey. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton. Gerald served 12 years in the United States Air Force and later worked until his retirement as a Mechanical Technician in the Automotive Industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2015 by his wife, Lena Ruth Keever Sipe; step-son, Dwight Sipe; and daughter, Jackie Ann Sipe. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Sipe and wife, Diane, of Newton; daughter, Teresa Sipe Rhodes and husband, Vance, of Georgia; step-son, Charlie Sipe and wife, Tracey, of Maiden; step-daughter, Teresa Sipe; five brothers, Bob Barringer, Ronald Barringer, Ernest Smyre, Jim Eckard, Nick Eckard; two sisters, Thelma Barringer, Harlene Hising; grandchildren, Ashland Rhodes, Wayne Rhodes; step-grandchildren, Vickie Goodin and husband, Daniel, Nick Sipe and wife, Brooke, Randi Sims and husband, Mike; step-great-grandchildren, Nixon Sipe, Blythe Sipe, Kristin Sims, Alex Goodin and Austin Goodin. A Service of Remembrance will be held on , 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Orovitz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. A Receiving of Friends will be held from 2:00 to 2:45 prior to the service. Obituary: Dr. Doris Elaine Sipe, 72, passed away , May 29, 2015 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Sipe was born 20, 1942 in Catawba Co. NC., to Beulah Herman Sipe and the late Elmer E. Sipe. Dr. Sipe was a charter member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Hickory, where she served as School Superintendent and played in the hand bell choir. Elaine graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1960. She then received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Concordia in River Forest, IL. In 1964 she joined President Kennedys newly formed United States Peace Corps as a teacher of English in Bentong, Pahang, Malaysia. She taught school at Concordia Lutheran School in Conover while studying for her Master of Arts degree in Geography from Appalachian State. Elaine then went on to teach all the geography and social studies courses from 1970-1987 at Sacred Heart in Belmont as Assistant Professor of Education. During this time she pursued the requirements for her Doctorate Degree in Higher Education and Administration at Penn State. She completed her Doctoral Program in 1988 from N C State University. Elaine served as Dean of Adult Education at Sacred Heart until the school closed in 1987 when she then moved to Belmont Abbey as the Director of the Adult Degree Program. In 1990 Elaine returned to her alma mater, Concordia University in River Forest, IL, where she served as Dean of University . 14 years in Illinois she returned to Belmont Abbey where she taught for three more years until retiring in 2007. She continued to teach part time at Belmont Abbey, Gardner-Webb University, and Mitchell Community . During her Retirement she joined Kappa Kappa Iota, a professional organization for educators, where she served and Psi Chapter President for two years. Elaine also served as Chairman of the Board of Catherines House in Belmont. Dr. Sipe is survived by her mother Beulah Herman Sipe of Hickory, one sister Martha Houston and Husband Tommy of Bethlehem; nephews Scott Houston and wife Kim of Florida, Marty Houston and wife Stephanie of Claremont, and Andy Houston and wife Lorie of Hickory. The family will receive friends 2nd from 9:45 A.M.- 10:45 A.M. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. A service will be held on 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with the Rev. Justin Kane officiating. Interment will follow in the Pisgah . Honorary Pallbearers will be the Kappa Kappa Iota. Memorials may be made to Catherines House; 400 Mercy Dr. Belmont, NC 28012, also to Our Saviour Lutheran Church; 2160 35th Ave Dr. NE Hickory, NC 28601. Obituary: Gastonia - Andrew us (Bill) Sipe, 85 passed away peacefully from this life on , 23, 2011, surrounded by his family and dear friends at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born on 5, 1925, the son of the late William David Sipe and Vera Black Sipe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris Polk Sipe, brothers Frank and Carroll (Dutch) Sipe, and son-in-law Ronnie William Canipe, Sr. He leaves to mourn his passing, 2 sons, Michael Leroy Sipe and wife Karen, Stanley, NC, William David (Billy) Sipe and wife Sandy, Gastonia, daughter Carolyn Canipe Gilley and husband Michael, Gastonia, NC, brother Jack Sipe, grandsons, Ronnie Canipe Jr., Shane Canipe, Robert Sipe, Jason Sipe, granddaughter Nikki Sipe, 6 great grandchildren, special friends Pastor Robin Harris and Harmon Harden, and his beloved church family at Faith Baptist Church in Gastonia. Mr. Sipe was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Wisconsin. He started his pastoring career at Midway Baptist Church and served for 22 years at Springfield Baptist Church, and most recently as a deacon and member of Faith Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sipe, will be at 2 p.m. , 27, 2011 at the Colonial Chapel of Carothers in Gastonia with Pastor Robin Harris officiating. Burial will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the WWII Last Man Club of Gaston . The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. , 26, 2011 at Carothers in Gastonia and one hour prior to the service on . Mr. Sipes family would like to thank the nurses at Post Intensive Unit at Gaston Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.
