She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Gaskins Correll; father, Troy M. Thompson, Sr.; brother, Troy M. Thompson, Jr.; sister, Anna Laura Haile; and granddaughter, Laura Bolton. She is survived by 4 daughters, Sylvia Helms Sweatman (Douglas), Charlotte; Deborah Helms Bolton (Frank), Greenwood, SC; Bobbie Schweitzer Parkman, Mt. Obituary: Mary Whisnant Schweikert, 79, of Raleigh passed on 30, 2015. Mary was born and raised in Hickory, NC. moving to Raleigh, she met and married her husband, Charles in 1958. Mary loved to spoil her children and grandchildren. She always enjoyed spending time watching cooking shows and game shows. Being the generous and compassionate person she was, she often donated to charitys such as St. Judes Childrens Hospital, The American Heart Association and The Cancer Society to name a few. Among many other things, Mary was a strong woman and a true fighter. Mary is survived by her husband, Charles J. Schweikert; daughters, Theresa Taylor and her husband, Tony, and Anita Gulley and her husband, Patrick; grandchildren, Jansen, Jenna and Kylie Taylor, and Dylan, Ashlyn, Peyton and Colton Gulley; and her sister, Helen Ritchie. A funeral service will be held , 1 at 11:00am, with visitation from 10:00-11:00am, at Mitchell , 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. |

Obituary: Edward Joseph Schweiger, II, age 76, died , 12, 2014 at Wilora Lake Lodge. A son of the late Edward Joseph Schweiger, Sr. and Elva Pearl Compton Schweiger, he was born on 27, 1938 in Richmond, IN. Mr. Schweiger was a graduate of Ball State University and taught high school in Richmond, IN before moving to Charlotte. While in Charlotte, he worked for DANA Corp. for thirty years and was a member of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and taught School to the high school students. Mr. Schweiger was a fifty year member of the Derita Lodge #715 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, the Oasis Shrine Temple and was an Oasis Shrine Hillbilly Clan #13. Mr. Schweiger served as Raban of the Hillbilly Clan for twenty two years and retired in 2007. He was then elected Raban Emeritus of Oasis Shrine Hillbillies and was Tarheel #1 of the Hillbillies. In retirement, Mr. Schweiger was a professional Santa Claus for many years and enjoyed collecting black powder weapons. A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, , 16th at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Ron G. Tippens officiating. Masonic burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the funeral hour. Mr. Schweiger is survived by a son, Edward Joseph Schweiger, III and fiancée, Maria Victoria Baptiste and son, Giovanni, of Ashland, OR; a brother, John C. Schweiger and wife Candace, of Ashland, OR; a granddaughter, Emilie Nouveau and husband Jakob Perry, of Vancouver, WA; a brother-in-law, Mike Rigsby and wife Melanie, of Lima, OH; a special friend, Brenda Schanie, of Charlotte; four nieces and thirteen great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty six years, Rosa Lee Schweiger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals, c/o Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262. |
