Obituary: Alyson Rose Singfield, 57, passed away on , 7th 2015 surrounded by her loving family. The Family would like to thank all those who came to Ms. Singfields Celebration of Life, as well as those who have expressed their condolences for our loss. Thank you. ST. LOUIS • A memorial service for Alyson Rose Singfield, longtime community outreach director for U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis, will be held in Clayton. Singfield, who was on Clays staff in the St. Louis region for 14 years until she retired for health reasons last year, died in her University City home after a battle with breast cancer. She was 57. As Clays community outreach director, Singfield created and directed programs including Clays Congressional Art Competition, which recognizes high school artists in the First Congressional District; the Congressional Youth Cabinet, a program that allows top students in the district to interact with Clay and his staff on national and local issues; and a congressional internship program for students to serve in Clays St. Louis and Washington offices. Singfield also was Clays personal representative on the Regional Commission, where she advocated for increased access to quality primary care. In a statement last week, Clay called Singfields death a huge loss for me, my staff, and for the community that Alyson loved and served so well for many years. The family will receive friends ( 12, 2015) in the Great Hall of Ambruster Chapel, 6633 Clayton Rd. from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Interment will be private. WASHINGTON • Alyson Singfield, a long-time aide to Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis, has died. Clay issued a statement saying that Singfield died after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Clay called it a huge loss for me, my staff, and for the community that Alyson loved and served so well for many years. Singfield coordinate community outreach for Clay, and served on the Regional Commission. She also ran Clays congressional intern program. Celebration of Life for Alyson Rose Singfield : Alyson was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Rose Herndon Singfield and Waldorf Astor Singfield, the fourth of seven children. She was preceded in death by her father and 2 siblings — Adkins Morris Singfield and Ellen Elizabeth Bland Singfield. Alyson was educated in St. Louis, briefly attending Ashland Elementary, before attending Waring Elementary School from which she graduated in 1972. She attended Southwest High School, later transferring to Metro High School, from which she graduated in 1976, one of the first magnet schools and the only school without walls. In 2007 she received her Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Fontbonne University. high school, Alyson married and for the first half of her life was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. Soon after the birth of her first child, Hope Lynn Stevenson in 1979, Alyson moved from Saint Louis, Missouri to Clovis, New Mexico where her second child, Tommy Stevenson, was born in 1981. It was with this move to New Mexico that Alysons adventure began as an Air Force military wife, taking her and her family first to Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico; then to Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska; and finally to Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California. Alysons husband left the Air Force, she moved to Oakland, California where she lived until 1994.11 was in Oakland that Alysons third child, Earl Johnson, was born in 1993. In 1994, Alyson returned to her hometown of Saint Louis, Missouri where she lived out the remainder of her life. Alyson was a very social and creative woman who experienced life to its fullest. She had multiple interests and talents, She was an excellent seamstress since childhood. While in Alaska she began sculpting with Alaskan clay. She was a Jill of all trades around the house, fixing everything herself. She was a good dancer and loved to put on her 45 records and dance to James Brown and any bop music. She loved family gatherings and often invited the family to spend the holidays with her. She made sure that her children experienced travel, sports, the arts and encouraged them to he educated. Alyson never met a stranger. She had friends everywhere she lived that became her family. Her grade school friends also became part of her family. She made everybody feel that they were her best friends and continued these friendships throughout her life. Alysons work career always focused on children or service. As a stay-at-home Air Force mom, she ran a daycare from her home. Later in Oakland, California she worked with ACORN and the YMCA. Upon returning to St Louis, she worked with Youth Build and Congressman William Lacy Clay Jr. While a Clay staff member Alyson served on the Regional Commission, was his Community Outreach Director and ran Clays congressional internship program. Also, she coordinated the Congressmans popular high school Artistic Discovery program held each year at Robert Powells Portfolio Gallery & Education . Additionally, she worked with the Congressional Youth Council. the annual Clay er Fair, as well as handled constituent services for a wide variety of federal and state issues. Alyson served on the Board of Directors of Betty lean Kerr s, In 2011, she was instrumental in helping a a 91 year-old African-American U.S Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor receive eight medals which were long overdue, including the World War II Victory Medal and the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal.
