Obituary: Jessie W. Sparkman, 94, of Clarksville, TX, passed away 20, 2014. He was born 9, 1920 to Louis and Edna Sparkman in Newsom, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Miller Sparkman of Alto, TX and sister, Lois Brunt of Tyler, TX. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Rebecca, four sons, Emmitt and Lisa of Olive Branch, MS, Kelly and Kim of Slocum, TX, Paul of Montalba, TX. and Chad and Angie of Palestine, TX., Two sisters Emal Rogers of Alto, TX and Sally Michel of Lampasas, TX, ten grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. According to his wishes he will be cremated. There will be no visitation or services. |

Eddie is also survived by his sister Dixie S. Walker; Columbus, MS and a brother Frank Sparkman;Coatopa, AL and numerous nieces and nephews Eddie graduatedfrom Cooksville-Paullette High School in May 1934 and attended East MississippiJunior (EMJC) the following two years. He enlistedin the U.S. Marine Corps in 1937 and served four yearsin peacetime and four yearsduring WWII in the Pacific Theaterwhere he rose to the rank of l Lieutenant with numerous battlefield commendations while taking part in the battles of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam, and Saipan. the war ended, he returned home and later moved to Kemper where he became a successful businessman, land owner, cattleman, and farmer. He served on the Kemper Board of Trusteesand served four terms on the Kemper Board of Supervisors from District One. Eddie was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he was a member of Scooba United Methodist Church,the Kemper Cattlemans Association, Veteransof Foreign Wars of US, a 2006 EMCC Sports Hall of Fame inductee, and a member of Mississippi State Dug Out Club. In 1997 he received the Cross of Military Service from the United Daughters of the Confederacy, their mostprizedaward for patriotismandserviceto your Countryin time of war. Eddie first placed his faith and trust in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Cooksville MethodistChurch as a teenager. He stated the Good Lord had brought him throughgood and bad times throughouthis life and he was alwaysgratefulfor his blessingsof his faith, family, friends,and country. Eddie always sawthegoodin everyonehe met. Eddie always had a unique perspectiveon life, he was always forward thinking. He alwayssaw the future before it unfolded andknew the answer before he ask the question. Not the warmest or fuzziest of characters, Eddie had only recentlybegun to take stock of his life and consider what he would leave behind. He told his grandsonnot too long ago that he had lived too long; the reason was that goatsare bringing more than cows at the sale and, they are selling bottled water in the stores. Eddie will be remembered for his patriotism,character, integrity, and his generosityto his fellow-man. He believed that it was important for everyone to get along and think things through before you act. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Booneville, attended Gaston Baptist Church, and was a farmer. He was a 2001 graduate of Booneville High School where he played on the 1999 State Champion Baseball team. He loved the outdoors where his passion was hunting, fishing, and running his dogs. He enjoyed working in the field with his father and grandfather on the family farm. Services will be 3:00 p.m. , 2, 2010 at the Gaston Baptist Church with Bro. Matt Brown officiating. Burial will be in Osborne Creek . He is survived by his parents, Bill and Teri Spain, and Jeanice and Mitchell Pounders; his grandparents, Elton and Jewel Johnson, Billy Orvil and Marie Spain; step-grandparents, Edith Kendrick, Roy C. and Joyce Pounders; two sisters and their husbands, Jennifer and Mark Doleac, Jessica and Justin Taylor; stepsister, Beth Hughes and husband Joey; stepbrother, J.P. Pounders and wife Leslie. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Guy and Doris Robertson, Orvill and Quay Spain; uncle, David Spain; step-grandfather, George Kendrick.
