Obituary: Marlyn Karl Staschke, of Detroit, passed away on 27, 2016. He was 92 years old. A 1946 graduate of Valparaiso University, he enjoyed a long career in education. He first taught in Flint and then in the Fairgrove Public Schools. This is where he met his dear wife, Jeanette. In 1949 he began a long career in Lutheran Education. He taught at the Lutheran High School on West Grand Blvd., which then moved to Joy Road, and finally in 1957 to the Lutheran High School West location on Greenfield Road. He earned a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan in 1953. He was a beloved and respected English teacher and retired in 1988. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Cartwright on 17, 1951. Throughout their 64 years of marriage they raised a beautiful family. Marlyn is the dear father of Brooke (Jack) Kozak, Christy (Phillip) Swartz, Abby, Wendy (Phillip) Kamrath, John (Peggy), Thomas, and Kimber (Kevin) Haynes. He is the proud grandfather of 20 and the great-grandfather of 18. He is also survived by his brother, Orville Russ Staschke and many nieces and nephews. Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Hulda Staschke, and his sister, Arleen Gieseking. Visitation for Marlyn will take place on , 29, 2016 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm at Harry J. Will , 37000 Six Mile Road in Livonia. A Service will be held on , 30, 2016 at 11am at Evergreen Lutheran Church, 8680 Evergreen Road in Detroit. Friends may visit the church beginning at 10am. The service will be officiated by Rev. William Danowski. Following services at the church, the burial will take place at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Evergreen Lutheran Church, 8680 Evergreen, Detroit, MI 48228 and The Lutheran High School Westland, 33300 Cowan, Westland, MI 48185. |
