Obituary: Frances D. Socha (nee: Dolata) was born 29, 1916 and passed peacefully on 16, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Thaddeus in 2003. She is survived by her five children: Tom (Leona), Marcia Wolak, Phyllis (Ron) Andras, MaryAnne Cleland, and Elizabeth (Cliff Wilhelm). Loving aunt to Laura Cristina and proud grandmother to Colleen Andras, Christopher (Victoria), Jennifer (David Burnett) Kellay, Jeff, James (Michelle), Christian Cleland, Patrick (Jenn Allen) Andras, Julia (John) Wunderler, Caroline Wojcik, and 14 great grandchildren. Obituary: OCTOBER 12, 2016, MARKED THE END OF AN ERA WITH THE PASSING OF our dad, C. Joseph Socha. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII on four ships as a Radio Man. When the war ended, he was in Okinawa as part of a task force preparing to invade Japan. Once the war was over and he returned to the States, Joe attended Wayne State University, on the G.I. bill, where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in English/Literature. Joe launched his career in advertising for over twenty years, working at several advertising firms in the Detroit area where he was a technical writer (Jam Handy, Wilding Corporation and Ross Roy) and covered projects for the big three. In 1968 Joe changed careers and became a successful Financial Planner for the next twenty eight years where he eventually retired at the YOUNG age of seventy Eight (Investors Diversified Services-IDS-and American Express). His work ethic was second to none. However, his greatest love was writing, where he published eight books, starting in the year 2000 at the age of 80! As dad said on the back cover of one of his books, C. Joseph Socha is like that TIMEX watch commercial: He takes a licking but keeps on ticking. He survived life in The Great Depression as well. "We don't know what Joes last words were, but we are betting it was "Love you kids... GOD BLESS AMERICA.and Don call me Clarence Some of Joes accomplishments included: *Surviving the bombing and sinking of his WWII Ship, the Swerve, off Anzio, Italy where he was the second to the last man off the ship, along with the Captain! *Joe was also being protected by many of his guardian angels, especially when he was broadsided by a freight train, on his way to his wedding rehearsal in 1952. By the way, he did marry his bride, Emilie, the next day, and they were together for forty eight years and had four beautiful children!! *Joe endured the year 2000, where he had two devastating family losses: His eldest child, Paul, and three months later, his wife, Emilie. He is survived by his wonderful daughter-in-law, Mary Socha (Paul), Glorianne Ebel (Henry), Michelle Socha (Yve Muglia) and Marie Socha (Dave Skridulus). Joe is surrogate father to many: Mary Roy, Yvonne Fowler, Barbara Beckett , Judy Sheffer, Carol Holland, Cathy Fairbanks, Martin Wolf, Thomas Reeber, Jane Butzier and Diane/Ed Kuhr. Special thanks to the exceptional team members at Orchard Creek Assisted Living and Hospice of Michigan in Traverse City, MI. We are TRULY grateful for all your loving service and wonderful care.
