Obituary: Henry Robert Slowikowski, age 98 of Warren, died , 29, 2016 at the Shelby Crossing Assisted Living Facility in Shelby Township, Michigan. He was born 31, 1917 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Being just shy of 99 years old, Henry was one of the oldest remaining veterans from World War II,…and was the only 1 of 5 in his family who served and was fortunate enough to return home. So it is…with thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Henry for his service to our country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, Henry entered active duty on 28, 1941 and was honorably discharged on 15, 1945. Along with his continental duties, his foreign duty assignments took him to locations within both France and Germany. Henry was a decorated veteran who answered the call to duty with pride and patriotism, and we honor his willingness to stand in harms way for the sake of freedom,…both here at home, and for our allies as well. Henry was employed for many years with the automotive giant, General Motors, where he exuded his expertise within the operations of the tool crib. considerable time under his belt with the company, his hard work and dedicated service were rewarded with a promotion to Supervisor,…the position he held upon his well-deserved retirement in 1982. Once retired, though,…his work had never come to an end, he had simply eliminated the commute. He was quite involved in working around the house and managing the different projects that would come along. He was always a great helper and would lend a hand wherever he could. Always attentive to his helpmate in life, Henry would do whatever he was told. In painting a picture of the man, Henrys canvass was awash with colors in abundance as he was renowned for so many unique and genuine traits and qualities that truly set him apart. Like for his bride, Stella,…it was those Baby Blues and that wavy blonde hair that stoked her fire and kindled the flames of romance. And for many who knew and spent time with Henry, the image will forever be emblazed upon their mind of him dressed in his signature White T-Shirt & Flannel. Always recognized for toting a hanky & flashlight wherever he went, Henry was also known for filling the room with that wonderful aroma of pipe tobacco as he enjoyed a smoke in his favorite rocking chair. In his younger adult years, Henrys Drink-du-jour was either an ice-cold Pabst Blue Ribbon, a shot of Peppermint Schnapps, or a glass of Brandy,…preferably the Ginger or Apricot brands. When it came to eating, there was no doubt,…Henry was the consummate Meat & Potatoes Man. Meals were quite important to him, and Henry was insistent that there be 3 of them per day; always at the same hour,… 5am, 11am, and 3pm. It was also vital to Henry that the house be secured, but this from the guy who kept losing his keys. Locking the doors, closing the curtains and blinds,…it used to make Stellas panties bunch up in a knot. Henry loved being outside, especially in those peaceful moments on the porch while visiting with the neighbors. Being outdoors was also a great time to work in the garden, which he loved to do,… accept for the times when he ravaged Stellas flowers. Other pastimes Henry enjoyed included playing pinochle and poker, his two favorite card games,…listening to the radio,…mowing the lawn,… and tuning up the car. His sporting pleasures ranged from watching baseball and football on television to heading out into nature for a little hunting and/or fishing action. Yet, perhaps, one of Henrys greatest passions was derived from his Polish heritage. He was quite proud of his ancestry and waved that Red & White flag with honor.
Yet, without question, Henrys most profound delight was found in his precious family; loved ones that enveloped his heart and with whom he embraced with all he possessed. As they described their treasured father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his family told of a man who was a great listener,…someone who was kind beyond words,…a man who possessed a great sense of humor,…and whose motto was; Live, Laugh and Help Others. Though the loss of a loved one, most often, thrusts us into a period of adjustment and momentary sadness, sometimes those same circumstances come with an unexpected blessing,…as is the case with Henry. You see,…Henry is going to be laid to rest this , 5th,…the same day that he married the love of his life, Stella. would have been their 75th wedding anniversary, and how telling it is that the two were joined together back then,…and will bring the together again. Just when you find yourself fighting back the tears,…romance intercedes and, hopefully, encourages a smile. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Henry leaves a storehouse of wonderful memories to be cherished and remembered with each reflection shared. Yes,…he Lived, he Laughed, and he definitely Helped a multitude of hearts and lives throughout his journey in life,…and he will be missed immensely. Go Rest High, Dear Brother.

Henry was the beloved husband of the late Stella. Dear father of Jeanette Slowikowski, and the late Henry Jr. Loving grandfather of Patricia, Deborah, Frank, Henry III, Bradley, and great-grandfather of Katrina, Tahnee, Zackary, Kylie, Emily, Christopher, Tristan, Aiden, and Hudson. Brother of Frances Fox, and father-in-law of Pamela Slowikowski. Visitation for Henry will be held , 4th from 3-9pm, with a 6:30pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons , 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on from 9:30 am until time of the Mass at 10 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church – St. Clement Site in Line. Interment will follow at Resurrection in Clinton Township, Michigan. Memorial donations welcomed to the Alzheimers Association continued...

Obituary: Richard A. Slowiczek, age 86, died , 26, 2015 at the Evangelical in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He was born 15, 1929, son of the late John Slowiczek and the late Antoinette (nee: Milinski) Slowiczek. Richard began working in his step-fathers painting business when he was 15 years old and continued there until his etirement at the age of 62. It was at that point that he decided to begin his own painting business, a venture that thrived for the next 13 years until the completion of his last job at the age of 75. In 1950, Richards life was wonderfully changed when he took that walk down the aisle with his bride in hand. Together, he and Florence shared a devoted and loving 56 years together as husband & wife. Richard was drafted and served stateside as an MP (Military Police Officer) in the United States Army. With much pride and honor, we pay tribute to the service & sacrifice that Richard rendered on behalf of our country during the Korean War. While in the service, he welcomed his first child, Cheryl into the world. His son, Rick would come next, followed thereafter by son,Tom. Richard & Florence moved from Detroit to the suburbs, East Detroit, and had a great time raising the kids while both he and Florence worked. He also managed to attend night school to earn his high school diploma at the age of 47. The family enjoyed attending outdoor movies at the Bel-Air Drive In, visiting museums, family parties, and camping both up-north and in Grand Bend, Canada. In Richards spare time, he dabbled in woodworking, stained glass, and artistic painting. He loved to read mysteries, especially James Patterson, as well as anything involving history including WWI and WWII. The Turner Classic Movie channel was one of his favorite TV watching pleasures in his down time. Richard moved to Pine Ride on Garfield after the loss of his beloved wife in 2006. While getting adjusted to a lonely life without his soulmate, he began to enjoy the bantering with the medical & dining room staff, and the social activities provided. Without a doubt, without question,…Richards greatest passion in life was centered around his precious grandchildren. Of course, all Grandpas adore their grandkids. Yet Richard shared a very special bond with each of his, building a unique and genuine relationship with each of them, individually. He was very proud of all 9 of them and the paths they were taking in their lives. The moments he shared with each of them were more precious than gold, and he held tight to the bond that kept them close. To this loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, life couldn have been more rich then through the love that enveloped his,…and the love that he gave away so freely. The lives he touched are countless, and the legacy of love he leaves behind to each of them is strong and true. He will be remembered eternally, and missed immensely. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence. Dear father of Cheryl A. (Bruce) Focht, Richard G. (Laura) Slowiczek, and Thomas A. Slowiczek. Devoted grandfather of Lindsay, Nina, Kristen, Kayda, Taylor, Erich, Elliot, Natalie, and Julia. He was predeceased by his siblings Helen Kedzierski, John Slowiczek and his step-brothers, John, and Arthur Rucinski, and step-sisters Jerry Suwinski and Irene Schmidt.
