Obituary: Betty J. (Mackinder) Shippy, 91, passed away at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on , 27, 2014. She was born 4, 1923 in Battle Creek to Frank and Gertrude (McIntyre) Mackinder. Betty grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. She was married to William H. Pete Shippy and together they had six children. She was employed by the Kellogg in the Employee Benefits Department, retiring in 1991. Betty is survived by daughters, Sue (Charley) McIntyre of Summerfield, FL, Mary (Eric) Fletcher of Battle Creek and Debbie (Nick) Carcioppolo of Temecula, CA; sons, Bill (Julie) Shippy of Charlevoix, MI and Jim Shippy of Lake Worth, FL; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jane E. Janey (Shippy) Gardner; sisters, Mary White, Agnes Smith and Clarabelle Oversmith; and brothers, Marvin, Frank Jr. and Richard. Betty was a devoted mother with a beautiful loving spirit who put her children and grandchildren first. She enjoyed playing bridge, oil painting, reading, golf, bowling and spending time with her many friends. Betty volunteered at the hospital for many years and was a member of St Philip Catholic Church. Friends will be received at a visitation 12:00 noon-12:55 p.m. , 2, 2015 at St. Philip Catholic Church, 92 Capital Avenue N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Following the visitation, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Marotti at the church at 1:00. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park . Obituary: Jack Dee Shippey San Tan Valley, Arizona Formerly of Lansing and Higgins Lake, Michigan Jack Dee Shippey was born on 10, 1922 in Saginaw, MI to Paul D Shippey and Bernice (Baase) Shippey and passed away in San Tan Valley, Arizona on 19, 2014 at the age of 92. As a child, Jack lived in Saginaw, St. Louis and Lansing. He has an older sister, Norma Chandler of Lansing, younger brother Robert (deceased 1942), and youngest brother Donald Shippey of Florida. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1942, after which he joined the Army Air Corp where he served with the 5th AAC, 374th TC Group, 22nd TC Squadron as a radio operator on C-47s in Australia and the South Pacific. He returned home from WWII in of 1945 and met the love of his life, Audrey Lee Williams that . married on 15, 1945 and shared 57 years of bliss. He then began his life-long career as a carpenter and builder. The family grew in 1947 with the birth of their son, Robert, followed in 1948 by daughter Suzanne (Gilbert DeVlieger), 1950 by son Jack (Maria), daughter Debra in 1953 and finally daughter Jody (Brian Smith) in 1956. Following their retirement in 1978, Mom and Dad moved from Lansing to Higgins Lake, MI., where, as a family we shared many memories together. Dad began a new career as building inspector until 1996. Mom passed away 5, 2002 and Dad missed her every day. She was his life. Dad remained in their home at Higgins Lake but wintered in AZ for the past 8 years. In of 2014 he moved to San Tan Valley, AZ where he resided with his daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Gil until his passing. Missing him are his 5 children and spouses, along with 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren (2 deceased) and 10 great-great-grandchildren (1 deceased) and special daughter-in-law Linda Shippey Foy. He also leaves behind his adopted daughter and son Mike and Trudy Blackmer, his Bingo friends and neighbors both in Michigan and Arizona. Services will be held at Gorsline Runciman , Lansing Chapel, on 28th at 11am. The family will receive friends on , 27th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Deepdale . Dad will be greatly missed by all, but we know he is reunited with mom in heaven. We love and miss you both. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jacks name to Banner Hospice Germann Rd.
