Obituary: Kathryn M. Salemka-Shire DeWitt, MI Born 12, 1922 in Barry , MI, Kathryn passed away on 24, 2010, at age 88. As a little girl Kathryn won many awards for her 4-H projects. She was a graduate of Hastings High School and attended business school in Lansing. She worked and retired as a bookkeeper for the State of Michigan. She was also an active member of Redeemer United Methodist Church. Meeting with a circle of friends in her neighborhood for a coffee hour every morning gave her great joy. She loved to garden and will always be remembered for her kindness. Kathryn was a very sweet lady who never spoke an unkind word. She has gone on to join her euchre and cribbage friends in heaven. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Donald E. Salemka; second husband Rawlin Shire; infant son Nathan Charles; and brother, Donald Conklin. She is survived by daughter, Linda S. Salemka; son, Mark Edward (MeaDora) Salemka; grandson, Matthew Salemka; brother Ronald (Louise) Conklin; and sister-in-law, Aileen Conklin. The family will have a graveside service on , 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1490 East Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 48708. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Road, DeWitt, MI 48820 in memory of Mrs. Salemka-Shire. Obituary: Robert H. Sale passed away at home in Dearborn, MI early , 7, following a recent short hospitalization. Bob was born in Hamilton Ontario on 4, 1918, but spent most of his life in Michigan. He married Norma Jurisch in , 1943. had been married for 48 years at the time of her death in , 1991. He was the proud and beloved father of Judith (Tom Khalil) and Richard (Suellen); grandfather of Derek (Amy Wolfe), Elizabeth Khalil, and Jennifer (Jeff) Hayes; and great grandfather of Charlie and Henry Sale and Hunter Hayes. Bob worked for more than 40 years on the freight side of the railroad industry, both outdoors supervising crews and indoors in various billing-related capacities. He was a member of Fort Street Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving as an Elder, School Superintendent, Finance Committee member and Usher. He was one of the organizers of the Church’s Open Door program in 1967 that has provided hot meals, clothing and other services to many hundreds of indigents every week since then. He was a 33° Mason, and Active Emeritus of the Supreme Council of the Northwest Masonic Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite. He had served as the Deputy for the State of Michigan, as well as in various capacities to other Masonic bodies. At the time of his death he was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge in Dearborn, MI. Visitation will be at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson on , 10, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and , 11, from Noon to 9:00 pm, with a Masonic Memorial service on at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on , 12, at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Fort Street and Third Avenue. He will lie in state beginning at 11:30 am, with the service beginning at 12:30 pm.
