Obituary: Wanda Stubbs, 76, of Blytheville, passed from this life 29, 2015. Born to Jake and Helen Lewis Mayberry in Hornersville, Missouri, Wanda was a caregiver. She worked at First Baptist Church Wee for 17 years. She also worked for Superior Senior , doing . Being a former foster parent, Wanda had a big heart. She took in the children as if they were her own. Family and friends were most important to her, spending as much time with them as she could. Obituary: 19, 2014, Willie Virginia Stubbs realized perfect grace when God's embrace carried her home. Born Willie Virginia Thigpen, 15, 1924, in Alexandria, Louisiana to the late Zealand Benjamin Thigpen of Picayune, Mississippi and Anne Pearl Warnell Thigpen of Enid, Mississippi. Her family moved to Russellville, AR then to Johnson City, TN before returning to Russellville where she and her older brother were raised by their father following the untimely death of her mother in 1937. Virginia graduated from Russellville High School in 1942. She then attended Arkansas State Teachers and later the University of Tennessee, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1946. Virginia moved to Fort Smith after graduation and began her career teaching Economics at Fort Smith High School. On 24, 1947 she married Jack Dalton Stubbs of Dardanelle. Together they became longtime residents of Fort Smith. She took a thirteen year break from teaching to raise their children, Chip and Ellen. During this time she balanced motherhood with an active community life. She was a member of the Sutton Place Garden Club, winning numerous honors for her artistic arrangements. She was an active member of the Junior Civic League, a volunteer assistant at the Bost School, Cub Scout Den 1 den mother, and Madden School of Dance recital volunteer. In 1964 Mrs. Stubbs resumed her service with the Fort Smith Public Schools, teaching Economics at Kimmons Junior High School. She would continue to educate the young ladies of Kimmons in the art of fine sewing until 1985, retiring after 26 years of service. Virginia devoted her life to serving her family, her community and her church. A devout practicing Christian and long time member of First United Methodist Church and the Gleaners sunday school class, she served God and her church through active membership in the United Methodist Women, subgroup Rebekah, and the Methodist Village Auxiliary and through congregational ministries as a DORCAS volunteer and a commissioned Stephen Ministry lay minister. She also volunteered her time and energy at the Community Services Clearinghouse. Her greatest passion was growing plants of all kinds. She was happiest working in her many gardens or yard, creating and sharing beautiful floral arrangements from their bounty. She was also an accomplished artist and used her talent to enrich the lives of all who knew her. In 2002 she received the City of Fort Smith Mayor's Good Neighbor Award for her volunteer work. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 37 years, Jack Dalton Stubbs and older brother "Zealand" Benjamin Thigpen II. She is survived by her son, Jack Dalton "Chip" Stubbs, Jr. and wife Margaret Ann of Dallas, TX, daughter, Ellen Roseanne Stubbs of Fayetteville, younger brother, Albert Henry Thigpen and wife Laura Rocio Freeman Castillo of Cozumel, Mexico and cherished granddaughter, Erin Michelle Stubbs of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her nephew, Zealand Benjamin "Ben" Thigpen III and family, niece, Page Harris and family, niece, Julia Crenshaw and family, nephew, Benjamin Guillermo Thigpen, cousin, Marietta Rutledge and sister-in-law, Gladys Thigpen. Obituary: Lottie Smith Stubbs, age 98, of Fayetteville, passed away on 6, 2017 at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. She was born in Lonoke , Arkansas on 25, 1919, the daughter of Burrel Richard Smith and Edith Williams Smith of Ward, Arkansas. Lottie was the oldest of 12 siblings. She was raised on a rural farm and as the oldest child she assisted her parents with the other children. She was greatly respected by her siblings throughout her long life for all of the things she did for them as their big sister. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Willie, a career military veteran who served proudly in World War II and Korea. Willie, a resident of Atkins, had been mobilized with the Dardanelle National Guard in the fall of 1940. He was a sergeant and served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska defending the West coast during World War II. While Willie was on leave from the military he met and later married Lottie on 24, 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama. He was transferred to Germany in of 1945 and served in the European Theater until the end of the war. He returned home on the Queen Elizabeth in of 1945 to his wife and son, Richard. Willie re-entered the military and served during the Korean Conflict beginning in of 1951 and was transferred to Okinawa, Japan in of 1951. Lottie and their two sons, Richard and David were able to join Willie in Okinawa. The family lived in Heidelberg, Germany and Garmisch, Germany during later assignments by the military. Willie’s military retirement on 1, 1965 the family moved to Little Rock. Lottie was a professional educator and retired from the Little Rock School District in the 1970’s. She was a lifelong servant of Christ and taught a bible study course in her home for many years. She never wavered in her faith, even after becoming ill with Alzheimer’s. She would often say, “We need to go to church.” Her memory was challenged but she could still sing the old hymns that she learned as a child. She is survived by her son Richard, his wife, Dawn, and their children, Mark and Kara, and her son David, his wife, Maxine, and their children Shanna and Scott and four great –grandchildren, Jase, Avery, Weston and Maci. The family will receive friends on , 8 at Griffin-Leggett at 5800 W. 12th Street in Little Rock from 5 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. Services will be on , 9 at Lemley at 1401 N. Church Street in Atkins at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the City of Atkins . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to Willard Walker Hospice , 325 E.
