Obituary: Ruth C. (Clark) Strattard Freeport - Ruth C. (Clark) Strattard, 86, formerly of North Yarmouth, died , 9, 2010, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport. She was the wife of the late John Strattard Jr. who died in 1984. Ruth was born in Spotswood, NJ on 8, 1923 the youngest child of the late Bertram & Mamie (Dinkel) Clark. She attended schools in New Jersey graduating from Spotswood High School. Ruth met John while he was in the service and they were married on 26, 1946 and settled in North Yarmouth in 1954. When Ruths children were younger she worked at home as a seamstress, sewing doll clothes for a mail order company. Once the children were older she went to work for Kmart, she worked many years as the Personnel Manager until her retirement. Missing the social interaction she was unable to stay retired and returned to the workforce for Shaws Supermarket eventually retiring in 2002. Ruths family was of great importance to her. She raised six children but also took care of many other family members in their time of need. When she wasn caring for family she loved to bowl. She had a fierce competitive streak whether it be bowling with her grandchildren or in tournaments. She competed in many Maine senior games as well as national tournaments with a pile of medals to show her accomplishments. She bowled her last tournament in of 2008. Ruth and her husband also enjoyed traveling in their RV. proudly displayed all the states they had been to on the side of their RV. Ruth is survived by her four sons; John Strattard III and his wife Karole of Cumberland, Willard Strattard, Bruce Strattard and his wife Karen all of North Yarmouth, James Strattard and his wife Stacey of Gray, and her two daughters Joanne Burgess and her husband Thomas of North Yarmouth and Tina Strattard of Poland, ME. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also the grandmother of the late John Strattard IV who died in 1997. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on , 14, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist , 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held on , 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev Alice Anderman officiating.. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill , North Yarmouth. Obituary: Catherine Baum Stratford 1924 - 2014 Catherine Baum Stratford passed away peacefully on , 18 at The Governor King Community at The Highlands of Topsham. Catherine was born on 27, 1924 to Henry and Lily (Walker) Hastie in their home in Patterson, NJ. She was the first born of immigrants from Dublin, Ireland and Motherwell, Scotland. Catherine grew up in a large and loving family with sisters Margaret and Ann and brother Thomas. She attended St. Nicholas Catholic School and finishing school in New York City. In 1942, Catherine met the man of her dreams, Harold W. Baum, whom she married three years later upon his return from serving in the US Army during WWII. Together, they were blessed with six wonderful children whom they taught values of love and kindness, faith and compassion, integrity and strong work ethic. moved to Portland, Maine in 1962. 25 years of marriage, Catherine's fairy tale romance came to an early end when Harold died at the age of 51. She carried on in both parental roles for seven years until she married her very dear friend and companion Joseph E. Stratford in 1978. Catherine was a woman of strong faith, and was devoted to the Roman Catholic Church. To everyone who knew her, Catherine was a role model of unconditional love. In the Fall of 1970, Catherine began working in the Office of Religious Education of the Diocese of Portland. She worked as the Activities Coordinator of the Father Hayes at St. Joseph Parish, retiring in 2001. In her later years, she enjoyed the vibrant lifestyle at Ocean View at Falmouth, prior moving to Governor King. Next to her faith, Catherine's family always came first. She adored her children, and was overwhelmed with joy with the blessing of each new grandchild and great-grandchild. She loved to attend all of their events, ball games, and parties. Catherine also enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, traveling, and social activities with friends. Catherine is predeceased by her parents, her brother, one sister, and her husbands Harold and Joseph. Catherine is survived by her children and their families Bette Ann and Ian Buchan of Days Ferry, Kathleen and Larry Gross of Camden, Margaret Jane Flaherty of Cumberland, Maureen and Dick Connolly of Portland, Harold and Dee Dee Baum of Scarborough, and Patty and Dennis Theriault of Sanford; plus stepson Cary Stratford of Alstead, NH, her twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Catherine is also survived by her sister Ann Burke of Montville, NJ and many dear nieces and nephews. Catherine's children are deeply grateful for the love and compassionate care provided by the staff at Governor King. Their acts of kindness never went unnoticed, and will never be forgotten. In honor of Catherine, donations may be made to either The "OceanView Residents Assistance Fund" or the "Highlands Residents Assistance Fund". As Catherine would always say, "Just put on a little lipstick, and you'll be fine". Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation on 21, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. in the Jones, Rich & Hutchins 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. She was born in Portland the daughter of Sabatino and Michelina D Andrea Panetti. She attended local schools graduating from Deering High School class of 1940. She also graduated from Northeast Business . Viola was employed at CNA Insurance, and at The Hartford Insurance as a claims adjuster for 25 years until her retirement. She was a longtime communicant at St. Pius X Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years, and was in charge of taking collections. She was a very active parishioner. She was a member of the National Association of Government Retired Employees, former member of Insurance Women of Southern Maine, and member of the Elks Emblem Club. She is predeceased by her husband, George S. Stratchko in 1994. She leaves her son George D. and his wife Cheryl Stratchko of Saco, a sister, Margaret Darling of Clearwater, FL., 2 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren.
