Obituary: Mrs. Sternfels, 98, a native of Paincourtville and resident of Klotzville, died at 4:35 p.m. , Sept. 15, 2010. Visitation at St. Anne Catholic Church in Napoleonville , 18, 2010, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joel LaBauve, celebrant. Entombment in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Mausoleum, Paincourtville. She was co-founder of Roy Sternfels Insurance Agency where she worked with great devotion for 74 years. Also, she gave 43 years of love, support and dedication to Prevost Ladies Auxiliary. Throughout her life she was an avid card player and golfer. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dolly and Dr. James Brien; daughter-in-law, Gretchen Sternfels; sister, Rosa Jane Robichaux; 12 grandchildren, Jay Brien, Shelby Pate, Christine Schonacher, Leo Sternfels, Paula Geiger, Louise Roussel, Roy Sternfels, Sarah Freia, Margaret Chauvin, Lucy Dupont, Julie Morvant and Ronny Sternfels Jr. and their spouses; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, Roy Sternfels; son, Ronny Sternfels Sr.; parents, Lucia and Henry Martinez; and sister, Rosa Mae Young. The family extends deepest appreciation to Gwen Calvaruso and the private caregivers whose compassionate, tender loving care comforted Mrs. Sternfels during her final days. Obituary: Warren Lee Stern, age 89, a New Orleans native, died at his residence on , 15th after a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of New Orleans Academy and Tulane University and attended Harvard Business School before serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. in Europe and North Africa during WW II. Mr. Stern was steeped in a spirit of philanthropy, supporting grassroots initiatives and organizations, especially those benefiting the youth of our city. He served as a board member of Big Brothers; funded varied programs and scholarships for students at NOCCA; and endorsed the ecumenical projects of the Archbishops Community Appeal. Mr. Stern was a cofounder and past president of the Maple Area Residents Association, demonstrating his commitment to the preservation of New Orleans neighborhoods. He also served on the board of trustees of Temple Sinai. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Wright Stern, of 54 years and two sons Robert Wright Stern and Charles Warren Stern as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is a son of the late Josephine Mayer Stern and S. Walter Stern, Sr. and a brother of the late S. Walter Stern, Jr. and Maurice M. Stern. The family wishes to express its profound gratitude for the extraordinary compassion, care and support of Jenny Delgado, Irma Monette, Stephanie Bazile, Maxie Watson, Yolanda Brisco and Darrell Simoneaux as well as Drs. Obituary: A retired administrator and teacher with the Ascension Parish School System, he died , 09, 2015 at 2:42 am. A native of Hastings, Minn. and a resident of Gonzales, he was 84. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald L. Stern and Margaret Kordosky Stern and a brother, Donald Stern. Roy received his bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin and his masters degree from LSU where he was a Phi Delta Kappa member. He taught English and Journalism at East Ascension High; was named the first principal of the new St. Amant High School; and was appointed the Director of Secondary Education, a position he held until his retirement. He was also a member of the City of Gonzales Marketing Team; past member of the Gonzales Rotary Club and an honorary Knights of Columbus member. The family would like to express their deep thanks to Dr. M. Patrick Stagg, II, the staff of the Cancer Treatment of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, and the Carpenter House for their care and support. Obituary: BOSSIER CITY, LA \ Services for Oliver C. Sterling, 92, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on , May 14, 2014 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service. Oliver was a WWII veteran and a participant in the D-Day Landing, He retired from Barksdale Air Force Base after a long military career as a medic. Later, he enjoyed working on cars, gardening and fishing. Oliver was preceded in death by his son Joseph C. Sterling and son-in-law Bill Lowery. He is survived by his wife of 73 years Dorothy Sterling, daughters Sharon Lowery and Sandra Pottmeyer and husband James, grandchildren Rebecca Lowery, Matt Werner, Steven Pottmeyer and wife Victoria and Rayna Lemoine as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Obituary: Memorial services will be held , 7, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Iberts Mortuary in Franklin celebrating the life of Nevis Benjamin NeeVee Sterling, a native of Marrero and a 15 year resident of ville, who passed away at the age of 25 on , 26, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Johnson Jr., Specialist Stanley Johnson III, Marcus Sterling, Aurelian Gunner, Wilfred Babino, James Stevenson, Andrew Briscoe, Aston Bogan and Blake Bogan, Christopher Wallace, and Ronell Bourgeois. NeNe, as he was affectionately known by his family, loved life and lived it to the fullest. Nevis was a very loving, generous, and loyal young man who always saw the good in people and accepted others as they were. He was also extremely smart. While attending Franklin High School he was in the gifted program, graduated in 2008 with a TOPS scholarship, and then briefly attended LSU. Nevis enjoyed playing sports as well and was a big Saints fan. He also loved animals, especially his cat, Mr. O. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sidney Lawrence Briscoe Sr. and Dorothy Bright Briscoe; his paternal grandparents, er Sterling Sr. and Alee Jordan Sterling; his uncle, Sidney Lawrence Briscoe Jr.; his aunt, Adlena Cleveland; his godmother, Diann Russell; and cousins, Sidney Smith and Darrell Sterling. We would like to share with you the origin of Nevis name. Through research his father discovered that our last name, Sterling, was of British origin. He then discovered Ben (Benjamin) Nevis, which is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom and the entire British Isles. Standing at 4,409 feet tall, this majestic creation of God inspired Nevis first and middle name. We later learned that there is also a beautiful Island of Nevis (ˈniːvɪs). It is a small island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain of the West Indies. Nevis and the neighboring island of Saint Kitts constitute one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Let us never forget our unique and angelic Nevis Benjamin Sterling. Obituary: Lucille Silket Sterling, 77, returned to her heavenly home on 28, 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will never be forgotten. Lucille was born on May 14, 1937 in Perthshire, Mississippi to George Lott and Elnora Shade. She was adopted as an infant by Payton and Nora Brown Silket. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Coleman High School in Greenville, Mississippi. In 1969, Lucille moved to Pittsburg, California, where she eventually met and married Milton Sterling. were wed for 37 years. She earned an associates degree in nursing from Contra Costa in San Pablo, California and later a bachelors degree in health science from Chapman University in Orange, California. Lucille worked as a registered nurse at Pittsburg Community Hospital/Los Medanos Community Hospital for more than 25 years. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the California Nurses Association. Lucille was always an eager and active member of her community. She was a charter member and President of the Greenville Mississippi Club of Northern California. She was a charter member of the Phi Chapter of Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Inc., where she served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and Western Regional Director. She was also a member and Electa of the Order of the Eastern Star; Queen of the West Chapter #68. Lucille was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She served as a Church Mother at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg, California. she and Milton moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2006, Lucille joined her husband when he reunited fellowship with the St. Mary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess. Lucille leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mychele Hughes of Denver, Colorado, Charles Morris (Sophia) of Oakley, California, Crystal Eaves (Michael) of New York, NY, and Fredrick Wright of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Anwar Hughes, Lanesha Morris, Chaz Morris, Tiana Morris, Devyn Morris, Demi Boring, Paula Boring, Dylan Boring, Brittney Boring; and one great grandchild, Aaliyah; Goddaughter, Shyree Flores; nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of friends and many others who thought of her as their mother. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Ivory Bracey, y Bracey and Lampton Durdon. |
