Obituary: Fredrick Rick Brian Schweitzer, aged 54, of Sulphur, LA, passed away , 5th, 2015 as a result of an accident at home. Rick was born 14th, 1961 in DeRidder, LA, to Lamar and Beverly Schweitzer. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his step-mother Linda Schweitzer. Rick graduated from DeRidder High School in 1979 and Northwestern State University with a degree in Industrial Technology. He was an eagle scout, athlete, and National AAU Decathlete. graduating from Northwestern State University, Rick joined the United State Marine Corps where he served as a Lance Corporal. Once Rick was honorably discharged from the USMC, he earned his nursing degree from McNeese State University. He has worked as a Registered Nurse for several Lake Area hospitals. Rick was a loving husband, supportive father, and a good friend to everyone who knew him. Rick loved cooking, gardening, sports, working out, working on home improvements, and helping others. Ricks greatest joy in life was visiting, hosting, and cooking for friends and family. Rick is survived by his wife Carol Schweitzer of Sulphur; two step-sons Nick Nazar of Houston, TX, and Josh Nazar and his wife Shelli of Houston, TX; two brothers Stephen Michael Schweitzer and his wife Sandra of New Orleans, Jeffery Alan Schweitzer and his wife Tommie of Lake Charles; father-in-law Larry Kelley; brother-in-law Mike Kelley; one step-brother and two step-sisters Lee Joseph Joey Petitjean Jr., Angela Angie Petitjean Leger, and Rochelle Shelly Denise Petitjean; and multiple nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held , 11th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial . Visitation will be , 10th, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and , 11th, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM the service. Rachel McConnell-Switzer, Associate Pastor, and Ellen Alston, Pastor, will officiate. Ricks family wants to express their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to the first responders from the Sulphur Fire Department, Sulphur Police Department, and Acadian Ambulance Service for their heroic efforts. Obituary: Alfred George (Cotton) Schwarzer was born 5, 1928, in Westlake, LA. He passed away 29th in Sulphur, LA. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy (Smith) Schwarzer of Westlake; one daughter, LaVona Areno (Jerry) of Ragley; and son, Rodney Schwarzer (Melanie) of Oak Ridge, TX. His grandchildren include Kari Kellogg (Brad); Rene Fontenot (Jamie), both of Westlake; Alex, Zach, and Madeleine (Maddi) Schwarzer of Oak Ridge, TX. He had 7 great-grandchildren; Lakean Doyle of Sulphur, Dillan and Brinkley Daley, Taylor and Cade Kellogg, Caiden and Ansley Fontenot, all of Westlake, and one Great-great grandchild, Kyler Doyle of Sulphur. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lucille Baham Schwarzer, and brother Milford, who died at birth. A native of Westlake, he served his country during WWII as a Seabee on Okinawa, where he served until the war ended. Upon his arrival back in Westlake, he went to work for Continental Oil Co as a welder, and over his 40 years of service, retired as a supervisor/planner estimator. Cotton served his community in many ways: he coached Sheriffs league baseball, served as treasurer for Ward 4 Water District, was a charter member of the American Legion in Westlake, and worked with others in the community to create a new high school in Westlake. An avid and knowledgeable sports fan, he contributed articles covering Westlake athletics for the American Press for a period of time, and traveled the state watching sports. A knee injury led him to golf, which he played often. A consummate family man, he spent his time with his wife and family at every opportunity. Later in life, to occupy his time, he went to work at Calcasieu parish mosquito control, where he worked until of 2014. He spent the remainder of his days with Peggy at Stonebridge in Sulphur, a place where he loved and enjoyed life. His kindness and upbeat attitude will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be at 11a.m. , 6, 2014 at Hixson of Westlake. Family and friends will be received from 10a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home.
