Obituary: James Thomas Sawyer, Sr. Staff Sergeant - Ret. U.S.A.F Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial on , 31, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park on 31, 2010. Rev. Billy Pierce will be officiating the service. Jim passed away on 28, 2010 at Willis Knighton Bossier. He was 79 years young. He was born on 16, 1931 to Emily and Verus Sawyer in Berry, Alabama. 23 years in the Air Force serving in Korea, Japan, Florida, Alaska, California, and Morocco, Jim retired at Barksdale AFB to reside in Bossier City. He worked in real estate and served as a member of the city council of Bossier City for four years for District 2. Jim was a member of Masonic Temple Lodge 448, EL Karuba Shrine, The Bossier City Lions Club, and the Overton Brooks High 12 Club # 310. Jim was a great story teller. He enjoyed being around people. He loved children and animals. On several occasions he served as St. Nicholas for the children at Shriners Hospital. There was no meanness in this man. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Cindy Krueger Thompson and brother-in-law, Dale Johnston. He is survived by his wife Connie of 29 years, his sister, Gaynell Johnston of Bankston, Alabama, brother, Hubert Sawyer of Berry, Alabama, his three children, Vicki (and Ralph) Krueger of San Antonio, Texas, Tom (and Darcel) of Flower Mound, Texas, and Vola (and Tim) Oran of San Antonio, Texas. Daddy Jim was also survived by three step-children, Dianne and Drew Lerner of Bulverde, Texas, Erika Hull of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Ronnie (and Colleen) Hull of Shreveport, Louisiana. Paw Paw is survived also by nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also, numerous friends whom he cherished dearly. Pallbearers will be family members. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Jims doctors for their patience and care: Dr. Powers, Dr. San Pedro and Dr. Cole. Obituary: FRANCES WHEAT SAWYER COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LA. Mrs. Frances Wheat Sawyer was born 31, 1923 in Portland, Arkansas to the late Reverdy Kimbro R.K. Wheat and Minnie Watkins Wheat. She passed away following an extended illness on 16, 2017 at the Savannah Court Cottage in Bastrop, Louisiana. Mrs. Sawyer was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop and a 1941 graduate of Lake Side High School in Lake Village, Arkansas. She was also a retired secretary with Ben Pearson Archery Manufacturing in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. In addition to her parents Mrs. Sawyer is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Sawyer, Sr.; two sisters, Joyce Ginn and Anna Parrish; and a nephew, Harold Chappell. She is survived by a nephew, David Ginn and his wife Pat; niece, Anita Miles and her husband, Greg; numerous great-nieces and nephews and a host of extended family. services for Mrs. Sawyer will be 3:00 p.m. , 20, 2017 at the Chapel of Cox of Bastrop with Reverend Richard Gambill officiating. Obituary: HEFLIN, LA - A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Charles Thomas Sawyer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on , 4, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jimmy West officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Charles "Tommy" Sawyer 84, died , 28, 2017 at Promise Hospital in Shreveport, LA following a brief illness. Charles was born in Taunton, MA on 12, 1933. The military brought him to Bossier City, and he retired in Heflin. Tommy "Granddaddy Dozie" was a caring loving husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Tommy served twenty years in the United States Air Force with three tours to Vietnam. The Air Force awarded Tommy with the Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Good Conduct Medal. He furthered his career at Overton Brooks VA Medical for twenty years, with an outstanding service record receiving numerous awards. retirement, Tommy never stopped working with his hands, building model airplanes, model boats and HO train layouts. He was always working in the yard, building ponds and taking care of his animals. He lived life to the fullest and always had a big smile. He was member of the Baptist Tabernacle Church in Sibley, Louisiana where he was called the donut guy. He made sure to bring coffee and donuts to all of his brothers and sisters in Christ every and . He was preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Mae Sawyer and second wife, Ola Lee Sawyer. Charles is survived by his sons, Thomas Michael Sawyer and wife Mary Ann, Paul Bradley Sawyer and wife Lorie and Stephen Duane Sawyer and his wife Debbie; daughter, Tammy Sawyer Grill and her husband Wayne; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and one on the way.
