Obituary: Sarah Buckman Selders, 92 of Overland Park, KS passed away Jan. 29, 2011. "Sae Sae" as she was named by nieces and nephews was born in Uniontown, KY. At age 11, she arrived in Kansas City by train with her family and her canary. During her years at Westport High School, her southern charm, wit and high moral standards caught the attention and admiration of her peers including her beloved husband to be, Loyd. Their love for one another, and their shared love for the game of tennis, resulted in their marriage in 1939. As members of the Rockhill Tennis Club for over 50 years, they won a number of doubles tournaments as well as the hearts of many friends. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with cake, punch and a tennis tournament. Sarah continued to play tennis at KC Racquet and the Overland Park Racquet Club after Loyd passed away in 1991. She competed successfully several years in the Womens Senior Nationals and she persisted in tennis for exercise until she was 88 years old. During their marriage, she and Loyd took great pride in raising 2 daughters, providing a wonderful moral home and quality educational experiences. Nothing was more important that guiding and providing whatever was needed for her family. Her hospitality and great sense of humor endeared her to all her family and many friends. She volunteered at the Shawnee Mission Medical , drove a van for the Red Cross and worked with handicapped children at her church. She helped anyone in need by providing a meal, a ride, comfort or a just good laugh. Sarah never knew a stranger. She was a long time member of the Village Presbyterian Church. When her two daughters became Jehovahs Witnesses, she enjoyed a personal Bible study and attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall. Her last three years were spent receiving the utmost in loving care at The Court of Overland Park, where she continued to win more hearts. The caregivers dubbed her "the Queen." She challenged each one to a tennis match and invited all she met to have lunch at Rockhill. How fitting her favorite pastime was on the courts and she spent her last days at The Court. Sarah was preceded in death by a brother Rudy Buckman and the love of her life, Loyd. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Selders Bondurant of Kansas City North and Janet Selders of St. Louis, MO; three granddaughters, Amy Bondurant Milton of Yuma, AZ, Joell Bondurant, Kansas City North, and Evanne Bondurant, San Diego, CA Three great grandchildren, Ellie, Anna and Wyatt Milton along with a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Joell and Evanne describe Grandma Sae Sae not only as the sweetest, most hospitable grandma ever, but as a fashion icon, dating expert and amateur comedian. All who knew her would describe her as a generous, classy, loving lady who put family first and remained young at heart. She will be sorely missed by all. Game. Set. Match. Championship.
