Obituary: Jeanette (Delores) Swenson, age 82, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on , 28, 2015 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa. Services will be , 31, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial to follow at Ocheyedan Township in Ocheyedan. Visitation will be , 30, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Andringa Chapel in Ocheyedan. Jeanette Delores Dee (Hughes) Swenson was born on May 5th, 1932 at Whiting, Iowa to Elias Eugene and Rosa Leona (Johnson) Hughes. In her youth she set pins in the bowling alley and worked in the local café for four years. She attended grade school and high school at Whiting Community School and graduated in 1950. She attended Morningside in Sioux City and earned her teaching degree in Elementary Education in of 1952. While she was attending college she lived and worked in the Wiley Mayne home taking care of the children and cleaning house. She also worked for the Recreation Department in Sioux City. attending college she moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa to teach in the Ocheyedan Community School as an elementary teacher. She taught two years from 1952-54. On 28th, 1953 she was united in marriage to Arlyn Glen Swenson of Ocheyedan where they lived on a farm south of Ocheyedan until of 1982. There they had three boys: Steven Glen, Philip Ryan and Keith Arlyn. moving to Ocheyedan they operated Swensons Service Station until their retirement on May 1st, 1997. At the station Delores did the book work, pumped gas and ran a small floral shop. Music was always a big part of her life and in 1967 she joined a country western band called We and Dee. In 1968 she joined another country western band called The Fortunes where she performed until 1980. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and followed them with interest with their music and sports. She was an avid bowler, bowling in the Ladies League, Mixed Doubles League and tournaments. She was a member of the Ocheyedan United Methodist Church where she was a high school youth leader, school teacher and sang many times at church. She moved into Country View Manor in Sibley in 2012 where she resided until her death on 28th, 2015. Those left to cherish her memories are: her husband, Arlyn Swenson of Sibley; her three sons, Steven (Lisa) Swenson of Ocheyedan, Philip (Lynelle) Swenson of Ocheyedan and Keith (Julie) Swenson of Sibley; 11 grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Travaille, Christina (Joe) Schwartz, Cassie Hicks, Maggie (Tyler) Lloyd, Angela (Ryan) Bailey, Kevin Swenson, Stephanie Swenson, Kenneth Swenson, Korbin Swenson, Robert Swenson and Erin Swenson; 4 great-grandchildren, Carson and Parker Lloyd, Ava Schwartz and Isabelle Travaille; 2 sisters, Darlene H. Hughes and Faye Struble; sister-in-laws, Shirley Swenson and Fern (Robert) Smith; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Leona Hughes; a brother, Wayne (Patricia) Hughes, a brother-in-law Myron Swenson and a grand son-in-law, Andrew Hicks. Obituary: Dennis Lee Swenson was born 1, 1941, to George and Rachel (McHenry) Swenson in Ute, Iowa. Dennis father died in of 1942. Dennis mother married Dean Davis in 1943. Dennis grew up in the Dunlap area and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1959. He attended a community college in Brookings, South Dakota. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country from 1960 ~ 1964. Dennis married Marie Paula Bosse on 1, 1963. The couple was blessed with four children. Following his honorable discharge they returned to the Soldier area where they farmed, had dairy cows, did custom windrowing and artificial insemination for area farmers and he also worked at Tysons Foods in Denison. Marie died on 23, 1983. Dennis married Sharon Kae (Buffum) Leisinger on 18, 1985. lived in Moorhead and operated Swensons Market and Summertime Drive Inn. Dennis also worked for Jordan Valley Telephone & Long Lines. He retired from Long Lines in 2007. Sharon died on 21, 2011. Dennis enjoyed going to the casino, gardening and traveling to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed landscaping projects in his yard, following the Iowa State Cyclones, golfing, playing cards, and watching the history and discovery channels. Dennis died , 7, 2014, at his home in Moorhead, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 6 days. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Dean Davis; and two wives. He is survived by four children, Mike (Jeanette) Swenson of Bellevue, NE, Rick (fiancée Darlene) Swenson of Sioux City, IA, Randy (Sandy) Swenson of Wichita, KS and Denise (Dean) Buske of Onawa, IA; three stepchildren, Lisa Winther and Brian Cave of Magnolia, IA, Teresa Leisinger of Lincoln, NE and Troy Leisinger of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; 12+ great grandchildren; faithful companion, Bo; two brothers, Edwin (Carol) Davis of Anthon, IA, Larry (Linda) Davis of Dunlap, IA; two sisters, Brenda (Jeff Clark) Stahlman of Stark, FL and Mary (Darin) Gebers of Holstein, IA; sister-in-law, Paulette (Dave) Roden of Pisgah, IA; and many other relatives and friends. |

Obituary: Clayton Swenson, 90, of Soldier, Iowa, died , May 9, 2017, at his residence. services will be 10:30 A.M. , May 13, 2017, at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, with Vicar Shari Schwedhelm officiating. Burial will follow in the Soldier Lutheran . Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. , May 12, 2017, at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. are under the direction of Rush Family Service in Onawa. Clayton was born on the home farm near Soldier on 26, 1927, to Adolph and Ida (Nelson) Swenson. He was the oldest of three boys. He married Dorothy Sorensen on 8, 1952, in Moorhead. Three children were born to this union: Debra Kay in 1953, Cheryl Christine in 1954, and Craig Alan in 1959. He was born, raised, lived his life, and died on the family farm, a century farm established in 1872. It was the hub for family gatherings throughout the years. He enjoyed his cattle, horses, and having new ponies around. Clayton and Dorothy supported their children in church, school, and 4-H events. Iowa State Fair 4-H participation provided for several years of family vacations. Clayton and Dorothy enjoyed playing cards with family and neighbors and square dancing. Together, they were generous hosts. He was a lifelong member of the Soldier Lutheran Church. He served on the school board and various church boards throughout his life. He had a special love for the country church, and found great joy in taking care of the church cemetery for many years. Claytons life priorities were his God; his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy; his family; his farm; his church; and his neighbors. He passed many strong qualities on to the next generations, including: hard working, compassionate, faithful to the Lord, appreciative, heartfelt, and good stewardship. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Swenson of Soldier, IA; children, Deb (Ron) Kratz of Omaha, NE, Cheri (Bob) Hardison of Onawa, IA, and Craig (Karen) Swenson of Wausau, WI; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, Mandy (Otis) Phillips and their children, Eli and Josie; Kelly (Nate) McGranahan and their children, Clay, Levi, Avery, and Judah; Colton (Sarah) Hardison and their daughter, Steyr; Carla (Joe) Glass and their children, Camryn and Braedyn; Kelsie Hardison; Andy (Nicole) Swenson and their children, Aydan, Connor, and Brooke; and Cory (Kristin) Swenson and their son, Tristan; two sisters-in-law, Ann Swenson of Soldier, IA and Joanne Fletcher of Chariton, IA; and one brother-in-law, Ronnie Sorensen of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Ida Swenson; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Maynard Swenson and Gordon and Jackie Swenson; and siblings-in-law, Ernie and Eleanor Ross, Virgil and Leone Johnson, Mary Ann Sorensen, and Wayne Fletcher.
