Obituary: Julia Ann (Haley) Stephens was born 12, 1948, in Creston, Iowa, to James Calvin Haley and Dorotha Olive (Lane) Haley. Julia passed away 7, 2015, at the Ringgold Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 67. Julia graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1966. She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Stephens at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr on 19, 1966. To this union three daughters were born, Amy, Tracy, and Margi. The family lived most of their married life on a farm near Redding before moving to Benton in 2009. Julia worked for the Ringgold Hospital in Mount Ayr for more than 30 years as a dietary manager. Julia was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; and two brothers-in-law, John Cason and Tim Stalker. Left to cherish her memory are, her husband of 48 years, Donald; daughter, Amy (John) Ford of Mount Ayr, grandchildren, Andy (Annie) Ford of Creston, and Chris Ford of Mount Ayr; daughter, Tracy (Scott) Giles, grandchildren, Caitlin Giles and Connor Giles all of Mount Ayr; daughter, Margi (Scott) Belger, grandchildren, Luke Boord and Alexis Boord all of Altoona; three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Joan (Donald) Stringham of Benton, Robert (Linda) Haley of Benton, and Mary Jane (Ernie) Garrett of Diagonal; sisters-in-law, Judy Cason, Barb (Cecil) Hinshaw, Joan (Gerald) Bond, Susan (Duane) Keesen, Kathy (Jon) Goodale, Sheryl (Wes) Benedict, and Betty Stalker; brothers-in-law, Dave (Nancy) Stephens, Jack Stephens, Jim (Sally) Stephens, Jerry (Barb) Stephens, Steve (Eydie) Stephens, John (Karleen) Stephens, and Ken (Brenda) Stephens; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Nancy Hartman. Julia was a loving wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and will be fondly remembered for her love of watching them participate in all of their activities. She enjoyed cooking and often spoiled her family with special treats and meals. Her competitive side came out when she cheered on her Royals and her Hawkeyes! |

Obituary: John E. Stephens, son of Dwight F. & Mary B. (Brown) Stephens, was born 26, 1941, on the farm that his great grandfather homesteaded, south of Mount Ayr, Iowa. The family moved to Martensdale, Iowa where John graduated from high school. John served in the US Navy from 26, 1959 until 25, 1963 when he entered the Navy Reserves; receiving an honorable discharge in 1981. John married Cecilia Replogle in 1964 and 2 children were born to this union; Elizabeth and David. lived in California until Cecilias M.S. caused them to move back to Martensdale. Cecilia passed away in 1976. John later married Barbara Sanders and she passed away in 1998. John worked at the Indianola Community School for many years. He also worked as a janitor for the State of Iowa in the Hoover Building in Des Moines. He was well loved because of his great personality. John served the community of Martensdale with his time on the city council and by being a volunteer fireman for many years. He also belonged to the Lions Club. He attended Lee Town Assembly of God Church in Des Moines. John had a stroke and became a resident of the Indianola Good Samaritan for the last 5 years. He had recently moved to the Winterset North in 2015 where he passed away peacefully on 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and a brother Dwight Charles (Chuck) Stephens. Survivors include his 2 children Elizabeth Stephens and David Stephens; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister Martina Vest and brother-in-law Floyd Maxon; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Watson-Armstrong in Mount Ayr on , 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be conducted at Rose Hill in Mount Ayr where John will be buried next to his wife Cecilia. |

Obituary: Howard Ernest Stephens was born on 14, 1927, to Bryant and Vera (Townsel) Stephens in Almyra, Arkansas. He was raised in Hope, Heber Springs and Little Rock, Arkansas. Howard married Donna Means in of 1966. Howard drove truck, was a mechanic and welder. He worked in the garage and sewer department for the City of Omaha. At one time he operated a motel in North Platte, Nebraska and also worked on boat trailers and grain augers. Howard retired from the house cleaning business that he and Donna operated for many years. Howard loved to travel. He also enjoyed taking walks around Woodbine. Howard died on , 18, 2014, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 86 years, nine months, and 14 days.
