Obituary: Mike Shuler, age 56, of Kellogg, died on , 4, 2015, in Salem, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., , 10, 2015, at the Smith in Grinnell with Pastor John Epperson officiating. Interment will be at Prairie View in Gilman. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on at the Smith , and the family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Michael R. Shuler Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith , PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Michael Richard Shuler was born on 26, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Richard John Shuler and Lillian Alice (Green) Shuler. He was raised on the family farm near Gilman and graduated from SEMCO High School in Gilman with the class of 1976. He then attended Hawkeye Community in Waterloo, Iowa. Following his education, he was employed at Donaldson in Grinnell as a welder and was a dedicated worker of 27 years. He was a lifelong member of the United Auto Workers Local 1201 and served as the union vice president. Mike was a family man. He dearly loved his niece and nephews and enjoyed attending their sports and school activities. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed tending to his garden, camping, riding horses and going on fishing trips with his buddies from Donaldsons. He held a special love for his Red Healer dog, Dusty. Mike is survived by his parents, Richard and Alice Tootie Shuler of Kellogg, Iowa ; sister, Michelle (Doug) Beals of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother, Mark Shuler of Kissimmee, Florida; niece and nephews, Dan Beals and Hailee Beals, both of Dubuque, and Mason Shuler of Kellogg; and his dog, Dusty. |

Obituary: Ann Flood Shuler Urbandale Ann Flood Shuler, 87, passed away on , 14, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. , 26, 2015 at McLarens Chapel with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Resthaven in West Des Moines. Ann was born 18, 1927 in Shenandoah, IA to Foster and Grace (Patton) Rutledge. She moved to Des Moines at the age of three. There, she grew up and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945. Ann attended the University of Iowa where she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and swam in SEALS. While in school, she met E.M. Bud Flood and they were married the summer after graduation in 1949. She was widowed after 22 years of marriage and later married Robert Shuler. She was a first grade teacher, homemaker for 20 years and her second career was in real estate. Ann was a member of the Junior League of Des Moines, Botanical Herb Group, YMCA, lifelong member of the Christian Scientist Church and an advocate for childrens literacy. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery handwork, crafting, gardening and cooking. However, nothing gave her more enjoyment than spending time with her family. Ann is survived by her four children, Susan (Mick) Walker of Iowa City, Scott (Susie) Flood of Cumming, Steve (Ann) Flood of Des Moines and Sara (Tim) Sullivan of Clive; fifteen grandchildren, Sara (Rob), Doak, Bryan, Aryn (Jared), Kurt, Ty, Reed, Emily, Betsy, Katie, Molly, Annie, Emily, Grace and Kate; and one great-grandchild, Hannah. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, E.M. Bud Flood, Jr. and Robert Shuler; granddaughter, Margo Gerleman; and two brothers, Albert and Maurice Rutledge. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Iowa where a scholarship fund will be established for education majors. |

Obituary: Alice Tootie Shuler, 76, of Kellogg died May 20, 2017, at Grinnell Regional Medical . services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. , May 25th, at the Smith in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers will be Dan Beals, Mason Shuler, Camiel Landuyt, Levi and Garrett Cordes and Johnny Shultz. Honorary bearers will be Hailee Beals, Marcia and Doug Landuyt, Ashlan, Sandy and Coby Cordes, Christine Williams, Dee Dee Moore and Mary Ann Grife. Burial will be in Prairie View in Gilman. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Research Fund at the University of Iowa. Alice was born 28, 1940, in Grinnell, the daughter of Ed and Minnie Bell Green. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education in the Grinnell School District. On 12, 1957, she was united in marriage with Richard John Shuler at the Gilman Community Church. A union of nearly 60 years! The couple lived in Monmouth, Illinois and Grinnell. farmed in the Tama and Gilman area prior to settling at their current farm near Kellogg. Alice was an audiologist for the Area Education Agency #6 and had tested hearing for children in school districts in five counties in central Iowa for 30 years. She was well loved by all the school teachers she worked with. She later was employed as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Newton and at Meskwaki Casino Hotel in Tama as a VIP representative. Alice enjoyed her life on the farm, working with horses and trail riding. She was an avid reader, loved dancing and enjoyed camping. She also enjoyed playing board games, cards and bingo. Alice was very active throughout her life, and some of her activities included volunteering with the Booster Club and 4-H, playing on bowling leagues and teaching children how to swim. She was an avid New York Yankees and Mickey Mantle fan and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most importantly, was her love and devotion for her family, she was their rock! She is survived by her husband, Richard of Kellogg; two children, Michelle (Doug) Beals of Marshalltown and Mark Shuler of Kissimmee, Florida; three grandchildren, Dan Beals, Hailee Beals and Mason Shuler; one brother, John Green of Grinnell; and one sister, Beverly Moyer of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Shuler in 2015; and two siblings, Wayne Green and Maxine Jones. |
