Obituary: Shirley J. Serangeli, 88, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on , 09, 2016 at 10:03 AM at The Madison. She was born on 8, 1928 in Marceline, MO to John and Nell Newton Easley. On 12, 1953 she married Donald Buckley and he passed away on 26, 1975. She then married E.A. Babe Serangeli on 3, 1983 in Dallas City and he passed away on 9, 2007. Shirley moved to Ft. Madison in 1944 with her parents and she graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1946. She worked at Northwestern Bell for many years and retired from Sheaffer Pen Co as a receptionist after twenty eight years of service. She was a member of Fort Madison Methodist Church and also attended Sacred Heart Church in Dallas City, IL. Shirley loved needlework and baking chocolate chip cookies for family. She made numerous afghans for the University of Iowa Hospital. She enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a Cubs fan. Shirley was always ready for shopping trips and dinner out with her friends. She especially loved spending time with her family. Survivors include a son, Bradley (Lynn) Buckley of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Rhonda (Larry) Zumdome of Ft. Madison, Penny Schneider of North Liberty and Lynne (Wade) Reeder of Centralia, MO; six grandchildren, Heather (Randy) Stuecker, Erik (Juillet) Zumdome, Kelly Schneider, Mitchell Reeder, Abby(Dan) Henderson and Allison Reeder; great grandchildren, Dylan Stuecker, Riley Stuecker, Logan Zumdome, Brantley Henderson and Olivia Zumdome; step children, William (Karen) Serangeli, Bradley (Joyce) Serangeli and Deb (Vance) Tyler; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers, Manford Easley and Norris Easley; and one sister, Helen Payden. Friends may call after 2 PM on , 13, 2016 at King-Lynk & Crematory where the family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM. The funeral service will be held on , 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM at King-Lynk & Crematory with Revs. Lane Van and Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will be in Oakland . Obituary: Jean E. Septer, 90, of Pleasant Hill and formerly of Grinnell died , 11, 2015, at Courtyard Estates in Pleasant Hill. services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. , 16th at the Lynnville Friends Church with Rev. Doug Smiley officiating. Pianist will be Eileen Smiley. Pallbearers will be Elizabeth, James and Matthew Devig and Aaron, Alex and John Glann. Burial will be in West Liberty near Montezuma. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Smith in Grinnell with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 evening. Memorial contributions may be designated in her name to the upkeep of the West Liberty or to the Lynnville Friends Church. Jean was one of two children born to Max and Elizabeth [McCoy] Sarver on 8, 1925, in Union Township, Poweshiek near Forrest . Jean attended Searsboro School and was a guard on her high school basketball team and graduated in 1942. high school Jean attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and then went to work at the Automatic Washer in Newton. She continued to work there after her wedding until 1946 when she and Arnold moved to his parents farm where they started farming for themselves. lived on that farm until early 1970. Jean met Arnold in 1940 at the outdoor movies in Searsboro. became engaged at Christmas in 1942. Arnold was then in the Army and stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. were married on 6, 1945, at the home of Jeans parents. Jean and Arnold later moved to that same farm in 1970 and remained there until 2013. Family and friends were Jeans life, especially her daughters and grandchildren. She was always willing to help others and loved to share the bounties of her garden, whether it be fresh, frozen or canned. Fried chicken, dinner rolls, pies and peanut brittle were some of her specialties in the kitchen. Besides being a full-time farmers wife, she had been a 4-H Leader, had a detasseling crew for several summers and worked at Grinnell for several years. Jean enjoyed playing cards, attending the local womens club, tying quilts at her church, quilting for herself and family and researching her familys genealogy. Jean was survived by her three daughters; Barbara [Alex] Glann of Runnells, Patricia Septer of Runnells, Susan [James] Devig of Huxley, four grandchildren; John [Kara] Glann of Des Moines, Aaron Glann of Altoona, and Matthew and Elizabeth Devig of Huxley; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Elizabeth Sarver; her husband, Arnold; her grandson, Robert Glann; and her brother, Donald Sarver. |
