Obituary: Mary Ann (Wilson) Sullivan, aged 75, of Schubert Villa, Notre Dame, IN, died on 12, 2016, after a long struggle with cancer. Mary was born on 23, 1940, to Frederick X. Wilson and Mary F. (Sullivan) Wilson, in Washington, D.C. Her parents and her brother Thomas preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother Robert (Kathleen), her sister-in-law, Margaret Wilson, and by four half-siblings, Mary Katherine Wilson, Daniel (Ana) Wilson, Sarah (Carlos) Hernandez, and David (Sarah) Wilson. On 8, 1962, in Park, Maryland she married James A. Sullivan, who survives. Together they enjoyed 54 happy years of marriage. Jim and Mary have three children, Kate (Matt) Barrett, of South Bend, IN; John (Courtney) Sullivan, of Carmel, IN; Martha (Mark) Rode, of Park Ridge, IL; and eleven grandchildren: Kevin, Sam, Elle, Wilson, Reilly, Luke, Walker, Elizabeth, Erik, Maggie and Griffin. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews Mary (Erica Winter) Wilson, Maura (Matt) Schneider, and Jim (Tamara) Wilson; Meaghan and Tom Wilson; Ryan Russ; Cameron, Bradley, Samantha and Abby Hernandez; Xavier and Sofia Wilson and three -- with one on the way -- great-nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from The Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and Dunbarton in Washington, D.C., both ministries of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. During 27 years of family life in Evanston, IL, and 25 years in Bridgman, MI, Mary volunteered her considerable artistic and organizational gifts with her familys parishes and schools as well as local libraries and quilting guilds. Wholeheartedly devoted to her children and grandchildren, she attended countless sporting events, shows, concerts and school functions from kindergartens through colleges. Throughout two generations of fandom, she came to know her childrens and grandchildrens friends and was among their most reliable and enthusiastic cheerleaders as well. Her Catholic faith was very important to her throughout her life, shaped by her family and by school and parish communities at St. Anthony, Washington, DC; St. Mark, Hyattsville, MD; St. Athanasius, Evanston, IL; and St. John/St. Bernard, Benton Harbor, MI. Most recently, she loved serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and participating in a small faith community with Jim and other couples from St. Bernard. In May, 2016, Mary and Jim moved to Holy Cross Village, where she joined the 11:30 Mass community as often as she was able, and remained grateful for the warm welcome she received from the Brothers of Holy Cross and the rest of the Holy Cross Village family. Marys family would like to thank Dr. Rafat Ansari and Ms. Brandee Flagg, NP, of Michiana Hematology and Oncology; Dr. Alice Isaacson; the compassionate staffs of Wellbrooke of South Bend, Holy Cross Village and Senior1 , as well as the many family members and friends who cared for Mary so generously and faithfully throughout her illness.
