Obituary: Dave Anthony Starkey, 70, passed away at his home in Columbus, IN at 10:05 a.m. 1st, 2014, after a prolonged illness. Visitation will be held at Myers-Reed Chapel on , 7th, from 9 to 11a.m. with the funeral service following at 11a.m. Burial will be at Garland Brook . Services will be officiated by Timothy J. McConnell. Dave was born on 3, 1944 to Carl L. Starkey and Martha J. (Headley) Merriman in Indianapolis. Dave lived as a child in Elizabethtown and Columbus, and attended Columbus High School before joining the United States Navy. He served in the Navy from 5th, 1964 to 19th, 1968. During his navy career, Dave traveled around the world 11 times, received a commendation for his heroic efforts during the search and rescue operations for the USS Thresher submarine, served as part of the naval blockade during the Cuban missile crisis, and served on a river patrol boat during two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. his time in the Navy, Dave served as an instructor at Atterbury Job Corps and worked as a master certified technician for BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar at several service centers in Columbus before opening his own shop in the late 90s. He finally retired in 2008. Daves search to understand what the Bible really teaches led him to become one of Jehovahs Witnesses and he was baptized on 3rd, 1990. He was comforted by the scriptural hope that the dead are resting in Gods memory while they await the resurrection and that, under Christ Jesus rule, the Earth will be transformed into a paradise. Dave volunteered a portion of his time every month helping others come to a better understanding of the Bible. Dave enjoyed playing the guitar and writing his own songs. He also worked with his hands sculpting wooden race cars. He was an avid motor racing fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, but his primary sporting passion was Indy Car and his love for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He experienced one of the highlights of his enjoyment for Indy Cars when he helped work with Penske Racing at the Mid-Ohio Race Course in 1989. Dave is survived by his wife, Joyce Hashman, whom he married on 7th, 1971. In addition, he is survived by three sons, David (Kimberly) MacLaren, Brian Merriman and Shawn (Katrina) Starkey; two daughters, Tina Starkey and Carrie Starkey; nine grandchildren, Johnathon Starkey, Dylan Kreuger, Chelsea Kreuger, Kayla (Christopher) Thiel, Kelly Maynes, Riley Despres, Wyatt Despres, Brianna Whitis and Kassandra McIntyer; a step-grandson, Zackary Duncan; two great-grandchildren, Liam Thiel and Jameson Thiel; and siblings Kenneth Starkey (Pamela); Lou Anne (Mark) Hasch and Karl (Candy) Starkey. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha; his step-father, Marcus Merriman; brothers, Johnathon Merriman and Kevin Starkey; and a daughter, Julie Despres. Three weeks ago, Daves daughter, Julie, died as a result of complications from back surgery. A memorial fund has been set up for Julies children. Obituary: ChrisAnn Stark-Richards All who knew ChrisAnn have lost an incredible wife, sister, aunt, and friend. a painful and overwhelming struggle against metastatic melanoma that lasted 2 and 2 12 years - - she never stopped fighting and never lost hope. Her suffering was ended at her home with her husband, Roger Richards, by her side last on the 4th of . She was born the last of 6 siblings, who all adore her, on 12, 1958 in Ann Arbor, MI. Her sisters and brother, Boots (Carolyn Ann) Kervan, Mary Jo Cooke, Susan Tharp, Ree (Anita) Dausman, Paula Vermilya and Joseph Stark and their spouses and children and her Aunts and many cousins will always think of her remembering her vivacious personality and capacity for great love and joy. In the past three years, Chrissy became interested in our family's genealogy. We have all benefited, re-connected, and even met, relatives on our father's side of the family. Her father and mother, Joseph George Stark and Anita Marie Alioto Stark, have gone before her. We will celebrate her life together in Indianapolis, IN. starting with a Life Celebration Mass on , 13th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church on 5333 East Washington Street 1 Indianapolis, IN 46219 at 10:00 AM with lunch to follow at the church and all are invited. The graveside service for close family will be held after the luncheon. ChrisAnn's fearless courage, joy and exuberance was exemplified throughout her life in all her endeavors, rather it be relationships, business, and athletics. She always finished what she set out to accomplish by tackling everything with tenacity. Because of the way she led her business, which was one of success, savvy and fun, she drew the attention of many, forming life-long friendships. Chrissy and Roger had a full life able to travel the world creating cherished memories, creating businesses together and building a strong partnership grounded in their deep love for one another. Her ability to enjoy, treasure and make the most out oflife stemmed from her spiritual depth which was grounded in her faith in God. There are no words to explain or account for the loss of this precious, vivacious, intelligent, caring and generous woman, but we can turn to God and our loved ones in our hours of grief and know that she is in a beautiful and magnificent place where the level of joy and peace surpasses our earthly understanding. Today, we know she is smiling down aware of the joyous eternity that awaits us. We all love you - our baby sister, our 'lil' Peyton, our friend, and our deeply loved one. |
