Obituary: Thomas A. Stankie, age 88, of Crown Point, was welcomed into Heaven on 23, 2017. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Billie Eileen Stankie; his children, Carolyn Ray and Leeann (Richard) Quinlan; and her children, Dr. Pamela Drapeau, G. Paul (Ruth) Drapeau, Ken (Sherry) Drapeau, Keith Drapeau; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and his sister Geraldine Borem. Tom was born May 13, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Andrew and Hilda E (Mueller)Stankie. Also preceding him in death are his first wife, Marge (Abatie) Stankie; sisters, Elaine Larson and Wilma Richmond, son-in-law, Monnie Ray; and step-grandson, Dylan Drapeau. Tom graduated from Hammond High School in 1947; then honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. returning from the service he began working at Inland Steel while also studying at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Engineering. Tom worked at Inland Steel for 33 years and retired as Supervisor of the Industrial Engineering Department. In retirement, he loved golfing and especially enjoyed fishing with his Northwoods Fishing Club from Inland Steel for over 50 years. He left a legacy of love and devotion to family life. He was a devoted Christian from Calvary Baptist Church of Highland. Tom had a wonderful work ethic; a love of life and was loved by all who knew him. Words cannot describe how loved and missed he will be. Visitation will be , 28, 2017 from 4-8 pm at Chapel Lawn (8178 Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 47375), and again on , 29, 2017 from 12 noon until time of his funeral at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn, with Pastor Don Rector officiating.
