Obituary: Ina Slade, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on , 4, 2015, at the age of 86. Ina was born on 5, 1928, and spent her youth in Aberdeen, Scotland, before immigrating in 1949 to join her parents and sister in Arizona. Following her marriage to Frank Bond Slade in 1953, Ina became a proud and loving mother to her children Fred, Neil, Charlene, Sheila, and Ian. She derived a lot of joy, and gave a lot of love, to her 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Ina was always willing to share her talents and she taught many people using her skill at needlework, crochet, knitting, and playing the piano. Following her husbands death in 1988, Ina volunteered to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History in Mesa. She loved to help people find records of their ancestors, and specialized in finding family members from Scotland and Great Britain. Ina is survived by her sister, Ella (Ralph) Mitchell, her children Fred (Marti), Neil (Janice), Charlene (Rob) Barber, Sheila (Scott) Martin, and Ian (Beth), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on , 11, 2015, at 11 am at the LDS Church Building located at 848 N. Westwood St., Mesa, AZ 85201. |

Obituary: A Veteran of World War II and Korea War, Leonard Len Burruss Slachter, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife by his side on 20, 2015. Leonard was born 16, 1924 in Richmond, VA. He was raised in the back country of West Virginia, A hillbilly and proud of it, he would say. He joined the Navy when he was just 15, anxious to help in WWII, where he served as Boilermaker and an Officer until he was honorably discharged in 1953. When told he was a hero, Len would say, The true heroes are those that never came home. He should know, he lost both his brothers and one uncle in the wars. the Navy, Leonard married Esther Wojciehowski and lived in Buffalo, NY. had a small snowplow business for a short while then moved far away from the snow to Anaheim, CA and raised two lovely daughters. Both Len and Esther worked for Hughes Aircraft; however, he left soon after to start Slachter Trucking, a successful trucking company that he owned and operated, running 18 big-rigs. Len drove semis until age 79. His first wife passed away in 2005, and he met his second wife Holly Stradling Waite a short time after at the Fullerton CA Train Station. In 2010, Leonard and Holly moved to Arizona and in 2011, Leonard joined and was a faithful member of the LDS church. Shortly before he passed, Len once asked his wife Holly to take him home. She asked him where it was he wanted to go since he was home. He answered, Heaven will do. Leonard was preceded in death by his older brother Walter Scott Jr., younger brother Berkeley Adam, and first wife Esther Wojciehowski. He is survived by his current wife Holly Stradling Waite, his younger sister and her husband Nancy S. and William Thornton, two daughters Suzette Suzy Swanger and Tammy Ann, and two grandchildren Matthew and Hayley Swanger. Len was also close to several step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a loyal friend and a true patriot who will be sorely missed. services will be held on , 28 at the LDS Church located at 1150 N. Lindsay Rd. in Gilbert, AZ 85234 (Houston and Lindsay). A viewing will be held there at 9:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 am. At 1:30 pm, an Honors Graveside Service will take place at the National Veterans located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ where he will be buried.
