Obituary: Marie Gwendolyn Gwen Sievers, 90 formerly of West Peoria passed away peacefully in her sleep at 12:35 AM on 11, 2012 at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born in Henderson, Texas on 20, 1921 to Arthur F and Nellie Maud (Lovell) Smith. Marie proudly served as a Wave in the United States Navy during WWII. It was during this time she met the love of her life Arthur Sievers, while marching in a parade-she carrying the Wave flag and he the Navy flag. married in San Diego, California on 3, 1945. He went to heaven on 27, 1976 and has been patiently awaiting her work on earth to be done. Their flags have now been reunited and are flying at full mast once again. She was also preceded in death by one brother. Marie made her home and raised her family in West Peoria. She loved working in her yard and garden. She then moved to B ai B ith where she continued to touch many lives. Even as her family grew, she never missed a birthday or special occasion, always making sure a card would arrive on the exact day! Marie had a passion for cooking. Her world famous chicken and dumplings has yet to be duplicated! She was known by her grandchildren as cookie grandma because her chocolate chip and sugar cookies were the hit at every family gathering. She enjoyed fishing, whenever the opportunity presented itself and was always ready to play a good game of pinochle. Marie loved spending time with her family and was blessed enough to have been able to share one final Christmas with them. Marie leaves to cherish her memory, her son and daughter -in-law Dennis and Diane Sievers of Metamora. As well as grandchildren: Eric (Beth) Sievers of Washington, Brad Sievers of Bartonville and Julie (Robert) Bowald of Metamora. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren; Zach, Nick, Jake and Skyler Sievers, Tim Bianco, Chloe and Willow Bowald. The family would like to thank the staff at Snyder Village in Metamora for the wonderful care they gave to Marie over the past year. services will be Jan. 13, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Rev. Vonna Lou Larson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on . Burial will be in Parkview in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Snyder Village or to First United Methodist Church where Marie was a member. |
