Obituary: Lawrence Orion Strange, aged 80, died on , 16, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. services will be held 11:00 A.M. , 20, 2015, in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, with the Reverend Robert Beckum officiating. The family will receive friends the hour before the funeral service in Edgewood Hall. A private interment will be held at Parkhill following the service. Larry was born on 30, 1934, in Durham, NC, the son of Albert Royal and Annie Lee Strange. He graduated from High Point University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He married Jo Ellen Lutz, his college sweetheart and love of his life, in 1956. Larry began work in the chemical industry as a sales representative with Nopco Chemical in New Jersey. His career with Nopco took him to Jacksonville, Florida, and Cedartown, Georgia. His career culminated in a move to Callaway Chemical in Columbus where he started the paper chemical products division. He retired in 1998 after a long and successful career. Larry devoted years volunteering at the Southern Open Golf Tournament. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Peele. In addition to his wife, Jo, he is survived by his two daughters, Amandah Strange Turner (John) and Cynthia Anne Strange, and his grandchildren, John Thompson Turner, Jr., Joseph Gardiner Turner, Bradley Orion Turner (Rion), and Murray Allen Cohen, Jr. He took great pleasure in being a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren. He was known to them as Grando and spent many fond hours supporting them in their interests, including sporting events and dance recitals. His favorite activity in later years was spending time with his family at their beach home in Seagrove Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to M. D.
