Obituary: Kathryn Johnson Snowden, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on May 15th at St. Francis Hospital. She was born 17, 1933 to George C. Johnson and Genie Blythe Johnson in Juniper, Georgia. As a child, she moved with her family to Harris where she attended Mountain Hill Elementary and Hamilton High School. In 1952, she married Charles H. Snowden. She spent her career working for Bell South. In addition to being a loving wife, she was the loving aunt to 16 nieces and nephews. She had the privilege of acting as grandmother to her young neighbors, Sydney and Matthew Davidson. Kathryn is survived by her husband, Charles, her brother George "Buddy" Johnson of Phenix City, Alabama and her sister, Rose Klein Johnson of Thompson Station, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Jane Johnson Offer and Mary Ann Johnson Morgan, and her brother, William M. Johnson. The family would like to thank Amber Strickland, Sylvia Boswell, and Jasmine Sumbry for taking such good care of Kathryn for the last several years. services will take place on , May 20th, 2015 at Striffler Hamby Mortuary at 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The service will be followed by a brief graveside service and a reception in the Mill Room at Striffler Hamby. Obituary: Charles Hood Snowden of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on 26th after a brief stay at Columbus Hospice. Charles - or Charlie or Doc as he was known to many - was born on 18, 1930, to Charles Jackson Snowden and Frances Pauline Hood Snowden. serving in the Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Charlie returned to his native Columbus where, in 1952, he married the love of his life, Kathryn Johnson Snowden. Charlie and Kathryn both had careers with Bell South, and they worshiped at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to his love for Kathryn, Charlie was known for his sense of humor, his acumen with firearms, his loyalty to friends, and his ability to fix just about anything. Charlie was a true friend to all who knew him. He also was a beloved uncle to 16 nieces and nephews, many of whom he and Kathryn helped raise. Charlie also had the privilege of helping raise his neighbors daughter, Sydney Davidson, with whom he remained close for the rest of his life. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn. He is survived by his brother, John William Snowden, of Conyers, Georgia. The family would like to thank Amber Strickland, Sylvia Boswell, and Jasmine Sumbry for taking such good care of both Charlie and Kathryn during their final years. The loving care they provided enabled Charlie to live out his twilight years in the home he and Kathryn shared for over 50 years. A funeral service will take place on , 7th, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary at 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. Obituary: Raymond Lloyd Snow Born 25, 1915 in Jasper, Alabama. His grandparents left the Kentucky coal mines to come to Alabama. His parents were able to buy land and start the farm. Raymond was the youngest and has lived the longest, not by much though, his siblings all lived into their late eighties and nineties. He is survived by his two daughters Cheryl and Debra and his granddaughter, Stacy. Raymond served in two wars, World War II and Korea. He met his wife Shirley Rudacevsky in San Francisco while in the Navy. Shirley was a civil service employee and they met over the phone. Shirley and Raymond raised two children, Cheryl and Debi as members of Temple Emanuel. Raymond worked with the Rabbi every year on the Passover Seder for the children. Raymond was an active member of the Lion’s Club and an American Legion Post commander for many years. He was a member along with Shirley of Common Cause and both where advisors to the Jewish youth groups at the Jewish Community . Raymond was a hero and saved a bus full of people on the way to California. He noticed that the driver was falling out of his seat and quickly took his place at the wheel. He was able to get off the highway and get the bus to safety. The driver had a heart attack and without Raymond’s quick thinking it would have been much worse for the driver and the passengers. Raymond was also in Life Magazine during World War II. He asked that all servicemen coming home to San Francisco off the ships be given a 3-day pass. This allowed all their papers and documents to be prepared and ready with their new orders after the 3 days. This program was credited with saving thousands of dollars for the Navy. He also was known as “Bucket” Snow as he was continuously sea sick the entire time he served on the boats. Raymond worked at the Alabama Power for 41 years and after he retired he sold real estate for another 20 years. Anyone who ever worked with Raymond will always remember what a good and fair man he was to them. Raymond is known for his kindness and his strength. Until the last few months Raymond had never spent a day in the hospital. He was healthy and happy through his 98 years and we thank god for all that Raymond was able to pass on to his family. Honesty, commitment, love and most important his beautiful smile. The family would like to thank Fairhaven Retirement Community, Trinity Methodist Church and Hospice of Alabama for all they did for Raymond. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM , 12, 2014 at Elmwood In lieu of flowers please send donations to Fairhaven Retirement Community and Hospice of Alabama. |
