Obituary: Nelle Hill Stanford was born in Taft, Florida on 14, 1923. She died on 10, 2014 in Winter Park, Florida. She was the third of five children born to Velma Rogers and Henry Hayes Hill. During her childhood, her family lived in Fern Park, Lockhart, and Orlando. Her family also lived at Rock Springs where her father was the first caretaker of what is now Kelly Park. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1941 and continued living and working in Orlando for the next two years to save money for nursing school. She graduated in 1946 with a R.N. degree from Grady Hospital nursing school in Atlanta, Georgia. During her time in nursing school, she met and married DeWitt Stanford who had graduated from Emory University Medical School and was in his residency at Grady Hospital. had four children. divorced in 1968. While her children were small, she put her nursing career aside and concentrated on raising her family. During that time she was active in the Orange Country Medical Auxiliary, the PTA and American Field Services. She was awarded a lifetime membership to the PTA due to her many years of service, and her involvement in the American Field Service led her family to host a high school student from Argentina for one year in their home in 1966. She was also active in Park United Methodist Church, participating in the Fellowship Class School and her Women’s Circle. Although she did not work during her children’s formative years, she kept active in her local medical society. In the early 1950’s she accompanied her husband and Dr. Gene Jewett on many trips to the east coast of Florida to help with orthopedic surgeries as there were no orthopedists from Vero Beach to Jacksonville during that time. In the early 1960’s she also helped design, build, and work in her husband’s orthopedic doctor’s clinic directly across the street from Orange Memorial Hospital, now known as Orlando . In 1968 she went to work as the camp nurse for Eagle’s Nest Camp in western North Carolina. Later she became the administrator of the camp under Dr. Alex Waite, camp director. That became her full time job for the next seven years during which time she and her children attended camp during the summers. Following that, she went back to work full time as a R.N. She first worked for three years at Great Oaks Village, the Orange residential facility for youth in the judicial system, and then for three years as a nurse at Florida Hospital. Wanting to be more involved with her patients, she decided to work for Visiting Nurses Association as a home health nurse in the Orlando area. In 1977 she decided to semi-retire doing only occasional private duty work. During that time she was introduced to Hospice of Central Florida where she rediscovered her true passion for nursing care. Planning to work only part time, she soon began work for Hospice full time for the next seven years. She fully retired from nursing at the age of 72 when Hospice of Central Florida was taken over by Vitas Hospice. Nelle is survived by four children, Ann Stanford Duce (John), David DeWitt Stanford (Althea), Dwight Jewett Stanford, and Susie Stanford Rush (Randy). She leaves behind four grandchildren, Ben Stanford, Kyle Duce, Katherine Rush Heath, and Ryan Stanford. She was predeceased by her grandson, Tyler Rush. She has two great grandchildren, Will and Kate Stanford. She is also survived by one brother, Joe Hill (Joanie), one sister-in-law, Maggie Hill and many nieces and nephews. services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Winter Park on , 14. Viewing and visitation begins at 1:30, service at 2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Greenwood , Orlando. Obituary: Nancy Dunaway Stanford, age 76, passed away peacefully on , 22, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Nellie Elizabeth Harvill and William C. Harvill. Nancy was born in a, Georgia and graduated from Richmond Academy High School, as Salutatorian. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida to marry Ronald F. Stanford. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Ronald, their two children, Kenneth A. Stanford and Kathleen S. Shaw (Cliff) and two grandchildren, Kristen and Daniel Shaw. She was also survived by her sister, Linda Strother (Rodney) and eight nieces and nephews. She continued her education, while raising a family becoming a Registered Nurse, a profession she worked in for 20 years in Jacksonville. Nancy was an active member of Southside Baptist Church for more than 55 years and served faithfully in School, Vacation Bible School and many other church ministries. She dearly loved her family, friends, pets, traveling, and her church. The funeral service will be held on , 28, 2015 at 2:00pm at Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oaklawn following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc. and Southside Baptist Church. |

Obituary: Lonnie Lee Stanford, Jr. passed away on , 5, 2014. He was preceded in death by his younger brothers George Edward Stanford and Howard Owens Stanford, his father, Lonnie Lee Stanford and mother Arnett Owens Stanford. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Margelyn (Margie) Somervell Stanford, sons Donald Henry Stanford (Mary) of Franklin, Tennessee, Jeffrey Howard Stanford (Jennifer) of Tallahassee, Florida, and daughter, Laurie Lynn Stanford Smyly (Joel) of Tallahassee, Florida, two sisters, Dorothy Lee Stanford Griffin of Glencoe, Alabama and Betty Ann Staggers of Tuscumbia, Alabama, six grandchildren, Crystal, Michael, Heather, Logan, Madison, Austin and one great grandchild Claire along with many nieces and nephews. Lonnie was born in Sheffield, Alabama on 9, 1924. He attended school in Sheffield and Russelville, Alabama and graduated from Sheffield High in , 1943. He entered the Navy in , 1943 and was sent to San Diego, California for naval boot camp, From San Diego he was trained in Norman, Oklahoma in aviation ordinance and upon completion of training was assigned to the naval aviation base in Vero Beach, Florida. From Vero Beach he was assigned to further training at Hutchinson, Kansas and from there reported to Norfolk, Virginia for deployment overseas. Lonnie shipped out of Norfolk on D day 1944 and sailed to southwest England by way of North Africa. He was assigned to a patrol bombing squadron in Devonshire. When the war ended the following year, he returned to the United States and was discharged from Camp Shoemaker in California in , 1946. Lonnie attended college at Southwestern University (now Rhodes ) in Memphis, Tennessee and interrupted his education to marry Margelyn Somervell in 1949. He was employed as an outside salesman for several companies. He returned to college at David Lipscomb in Nashville, Tennessee in 1957 and upon graduation accepted a position at Colonial High School in Orlando, Florida from 1958-1966 where he taught and coached. He then accepted the position of Assistant Director of Admissions at Florida State. In 1968, he accepted a position with the Florida Department of Education and retired in , 1991. Lonnie was a member of the Timberlane Church of Christ where he was an Elder, Bible teacher, song leader and also preached. He once said, I never learned to say no. The family will receive friends on , 8th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Culleys on Timberlane Road. A celebration of Lonnies life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on , 9th at the Timberlane Church of Christ on Timberlane School Road with graveside services following at the Roselawn cemetery on Piedmont Drive.
