Obituary: Henry A. Stalls, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL passed away on 1, 2014, at the age of 92. He was born to Katie and Henry A. Stalls, Sr. on May 22, 1922 in Gainesville, FL. Henry grew up in both Florida and North Carolina. His early childhood was spent between Lakeland, Clewiston, and Lake Okeechobee, where he enjoyed the great outdoors of Old Florida. As a teenager, he attended school in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the age of 16, he was selected by the Principal of Berryhill High School to drive a school bus, a responsibility he took very seriously. graduation from High School, Henry attended and graduated from Belmont Abbey . Later in life, he graduated from Troy State University in Alabama. Henry had the great fortune to be a member of all 3 branches of the Armed Forces. In World War II, he joined the U. S. Navy and was a plank owner on the USS Oakland - CL 95. The Oakland saw heavy duty in the Pacific Theater and was awarded 9 Battle Stars. During the Korean Conflict, Henry served as the C/O of his Army Postal Unit, assigned to 2nd Base Post Office, Pusan, Korea. On the train journey from Inchon to Pusan, the Postal Unit was inadvertently side-tracked for 2 weeks and became known in the Stars and Stripes Newspaper as The Lost Postal Unit. Henry and a young James Garner, who was also assigned to the unit, became great friends. Garner was noted as the chief scrounger for the lost unit. Henry continued his military service with the United States Air Force, from which he retired with 28 years of service. His Air Force duty stations included Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli, Libya, and Sondrestrom Air Base, Greenland, as well as a variety of Tactical Air Command bases in the Southeastern United States. Henry met his future wife, Hilda Cain, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. were married on 17, 1958. As a retired military family, they settled in Jacksonville in 1971, where they resided for the past 43 years. Henry enjoyed watching old movies and his favorite football team, the Florida Gators. As a native Gator and season ticket holder, his fondest memories were when Coach Spurrier pitched a good one, with the visor coming off, followed by the team rolling to a win. Henry is survived by his wife, Hilda, daughters Patricia A. Valz (Terry) of Gainesville GA, and Katherine Stalls of Jacksonville, as well as 2 grandsons and a loving niece, Rose, of Belton, Texas. Services will be held at Jacksonville National with a brief memorial by Rev. Dr. Robert L. Morris of First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, where Henry and Hilda held membership. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. |

Obituary: William B. Bill" Stallings III, 76, of Homosassa, FL. passed away on Tues., Oct. 20, 2015 at his home. A native of McKeesport, PA, he was born Oct. 23, 1938 to William Jr. and Virginia (Household) Stallings, one of three children. Mr. Stallings was a retired store manager for Sears and Roebuck Co., a career that spanned 35 years. Bill, as he is known to many, was employed in either sales or in management for Sears locations in Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, and finally Memphis, TN, from where he retired and moved to Homosassa in 1990. He loved the game of golf and was a member of the former Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club, now the Crystal River Golf Club, and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Stallings is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth A. Stallings, Homosassa; son David Stallings (wife Cheryl), Memphis, TN; sisters Beth Leak, Homosassa and Sally White, Palm Harbor, FL; nieces Amanda Gattrell (husband Rob), Inverness, FL and Allison Leak, Hudson, FL; grandchildren Candace Fann (husband Ronnie), Marcus Lavendar(wife Loureen) and Brittany Stallings and great grandchildren Cole, Kaleb, Logen and Zoe. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Keith Stallings, on 15, 2009. A memorial celebration of life for Mr. Stallings will be held on Wed., Oct. 28, 2015 at 6:30 P.M. at Wilder , Homosassa. Friends will be received from 5:30 P.M. until time of service.
