Obituary: SPRINKLES, Jessie Catherine Phelps, 97 passed away on , May 17, 2017 at her home. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Sprinkles, sisters Allean Cross & Faye Browning, brothers Marvin, Ellis, Eldon & Glendon Phelps, two sons Wayne & Gene Newberry, a grandson Chris Topher Newberry, a son-in-law Richard J. Krempler and parents Luther & Hailey Janette (Alexander) Phelps. She is survived by her loving children Coy L Newberry & Joyce A Krempler both of Largo, a sister Wilma Jean McKenzie of Mainville, OH, a brother Clemen Phelps of Clermont , OH and grandchildren Wayne Newberry, Jr of Austin, TX, Shellie Newberry of Blue Ash, OH, Michelle (Andy) Kraeling of Cincinnati, OH, Lisa Harsch, West Chester, OH, Susan (Steve) Beemer, & Michael Newberry both of Reading, OH, Sherri (Pat) Skalley of West Chester, OH, Douglas W Jones of Sardinia, OH, & Angela D Meirose of Clearwater, FL along with 14 great grandchildren and several great -great grandchildren. She was raised on a farm in Somerset, KY the family lived like the Amish or Quakers with no electric or running water. Heat was a fireplace and a cook stove. Water was carried from the spring in buckets. The milk kept cold by the spring water. Clothes were washed with a scrub board and the water heated by open fire in a large pot. The bathroom was an outhouse. grew and raised everything they ate. A living was made by raising tobacco, wheat, corn, sugar cane etc. and selling it. made their own dresses and shoes were ordered from a catalog for the winter. Jessie learned to cook, sew and make quilts at a very early age and did so until arthritis no longer permitted her to do this. In 1951 she moved from Boone , KY to Reading, OH, to work for the Formica Corp. in Evendale, OH, and to put her four children through school. Jessie retired to Edgewater, FL, in the later part of the 1980s, she and her husband loved shrimping and fishing, which they would give to family and friends when they would come to visit. Once a year Jessie would fish and can Salmon in Michigan. She and her husband traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. her husband Andrew passed away, Jessie moved to Largo to be close to her brother. She enjoyed life, loved country music, even in her 80s she sang and danced to Rocky Top, and on s Jessie listened to Gospel music. Jessie enjoyed a good party, doing all the cooking for everyone in her 55+ community; she hosted quite a few parties with live country bands, these fun parties are still talked about. Jessie worked hard most of her life but lived comfortably in her later years surrounded by family and friends, two sisters-in-law; Ruby Phelps and Dorothy Phelps, Nephews; Larry (Ronnie) Phelps, Michael (Holly) Phelps and Niece; Brenda Hicks, who live close by, we all will miss her dearly and we love you. |
